TOAD's KISS PAGE

The first KISS song I ever heard was Detroit Rock City
and I was hooked! Whether it was the music or the
make-up, being 13 years old it didn’t really matter.

The first time I saw KISS was at the Montreal Forum on
March 13th, 1984 during the LICK IT UP Tour.
I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen. In the
summer of 1990, my wife and I went to Toronto to see KISS for
the Hot in the Shade Tour. It was a four band show
with Whitesnake being the headliner. Whitesnake
would not allow KISS to have the full affect of their show
using the Sphinx and lasers etc. Paul Stanley slammed
Whitesnake so much during their set that the audience
actually booed Whitesnake when they took the stage.

KISS was booked to play Ottawa on October 18,1990 and a
local radio station, 54 ROCK (now known as the
BEAR 106.9) announced a announce the band contest.
I immediately entered and crossed my fingers. On October 17,
Bob Cowen, an announcer for the station called and said I had
won the contest and would be introducing the band on stage.
The thrill of a lifetime, I met Gene Simmons and Bruce Kulick
during a pre-show meet and greet full of autographs and
pictures. After my introduction of the encore set, a
thumbs-up from Paul Stanley made me feel really great.
Looking back now, the only regret I have was not meeting
Eric Carr who lost his battle with cancer 13 months later.

I never thought I would see the original KISS in make-up but
with the reunion tour in ’96 (Ottawa) and the 3-D Psycho-Circus
tour in –98 (Montreal), I’ve had the chance. Each time I see
the band in concert (7 times now) it’s been better and better
and better.

I now have a 5 year old daughter and she tells me her
favourite band is KISS (NOT the Spice Girls, NOT the
Backstreet Boys, NOT Aqua….KISS). I wonder where the
influence came from? And when I tuck her at night, the #1
request is now We Are One and Shout It Out Loud.
