CHAMBERS,WILLIAM 1829-1917 MONTGOMERY
William Chambers was born in Wilkinson County,Ga on 22 Feb 1829.
He married Isabell Jane , dau of William Garrett, at the Old Ward
Place by Rev Henry Messer on 21 Sep 1851.

William Chambers served as a private in Company "K", 57th Reg
from Wilkinson Co from 3 May 1862 to Apr 1864. He was discharged
with disability(stomach disease).
After his mothers death, 1 Jan 1863, in Wilkinson County, he sold
the land she left him(Deed Book B, 3 Sep 1864) and in 1870 moved
with his family to Montgomery County,Ga.
Mr J.B. Duggan assisted in acquiring the land in Montgomery
County. The Chambers family settled on apprx 140 acres in the
275th Dist. near Uvalda,Ga.
Mr and Mrs Chambers were early members of the Smyrna Methodist
Church in Toombs County.
William farmed and also operated the Nails Ferry on the Altamaha
River with his son Lewis Morgan.
He applied for a Confederate Soldiers Pension on 2 Apr 1895 and
received payments.
William Chambers was reported as the oldest member of Milligans
Creek Masonic Lodge at his death on 21 Apr 1917. Isabell Chambers
died 27 Jul 1909.
