LEWIS MORGAN CHAMBERS 1873 - 1931 MONTGOMERY

Lewis Morgan Chambers was born 6 Dec 1873 near Uvalda, in

Montgomery County, Ga, son of William and Isabell Jane Garrett

Chambers. He married Lillie Louisa McCorkle, daughter of Cisero

T. and Anne Eliza Rigdon McCorkle, on 24 May 1893 at Mount

Vernon, Ga.

Lewis Morgan assisted his father William, operating the Nails

Ferry on the Altamaha and farming. He took over the head of

household on the 1900 Census of the 275th District of Montgomery

County, Georgia.

Lewis Morgan and Lillie Louisa were members of the Smyrna

Methodist Church in Toombs County, Georgia. Lewis Morgan was a

early member of the church with his parents; he being member

number 26.

Lillie Louisa Chambers died on 2 Oct 1922 and was buried in the

Old Smyrna Cemetery in Toombs County. Her grave is marked

"L.L.C.". Lewis Morgan's second wife was Kathline Stewart, 6 Jan

1924. Their marriage did not last long. Lewis Morgan's last wife

was Martha Banks, daughter of Henry and Angeline Sneed Banks, 21

Apr 1926. Lewis Morgan and Martha had one child:

Mrs Martha Chambers is also buried in Old Smyrna Cemetery, grave

marked "M.B.C.". Lewis Morgan Chambers died 14 May 1931 and is

buried next to Lillie Louisa in the Old Smyrna Cemetery, his

grave is marked, "L.M.C.". His will is recorded in the Record of

Returns, Montgomery County, pages 209 thru 212.
