Who is RevRik?

Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.(1Cor. 9:19-23)

My name is Richard Horn, Rick to my friends. I was born in the mid 1950's. I am married to a wonderful woman and am the father of two grown daughters.

I am licensed by Kensington Community Church in Troy, Michigan as a non-denominational Christian minister and at present I am serving in ministry at Pathway Community Church in Sterling Heights. From my home page click on the link to take you to my affiliations page where you can learn about the areas in which I am currently serving as a minister.

When not hanging out with friends or performing ministry functions I love to relax with music. I am an amateur musician and can carry a tune on most woodwinds, the guitar and the piano. I am currently trying to teach myself the bagpipes (I am also trying the patience of those around me while I do so).

I also love to vacation and spend time in nature admiring the handiwork of God as I spend time resting. Another way I love to spend my time is with family and friends. I really enjoy combining both of these by vacationing with family and friends. For some of my favorite vacation spots check out my fun sites page.

Speaking of friends, a friend of mine once called me a Christian Pit Bull. He said at times I am like a St. Bernard, but overall I am like a Pit Bull. My first reaction was to deny this and ask if I could be a Collie or Cocker Spaniel or something cute instead. So I went to some sources to find out about Pit Bulls and now I can say that I wear the title he gave me with pride. Just so there is no confusion let me share a couple pictures with you.

That is me on the left and the pit bull on the right. :-)

Here are some things that I learned about Pit Bulls and I have to admit that most of these are true of me too.

extremely easy-going
human-loving
highly versatile
adaptive
gushingly affectionate
eager-to-please
all-around family type
rock-steady temperament
will protect loved ones when necessary
loyal, loving companion
a refusal to quit
stubborn perseverance
emotionally stable

The following paragraphs talk about "gameness" which is an identifying mark of pit bulls:

"Gameness" is most akin to the human virtue of unflagging courage. It is a determination to master any situation and never back down out of fear. Gameness should not be confused with aggressiveness. Gameness does not make one fight-happy; but if there is no other choice than to fight, it will be a fight until a win or until I die trying.

Pit Bulls have an uncanny ability to size up a potentially threatening situation correctly and decide whether or not it is actually something to get agitated over. This is related to their fearlessness and unphasability.

Gameness is, in positive terms, a happy eagerness to pursue a challenge; but it is also, in negative terms, the stubborn refusal to heed the cries of the nervous system to stop struggling and flee the situation that is causing so much pain.

My prayer is that God will let me be a Pit Bull for His righteousness as I attack heresy with the power and truth of His Holy Word. And that He keeps me open to His guidance by the Holy Spirit so that I will always know when to take fight and when to take flight.
