Finally Home
May 11th Well it's been a long week. But an
enjoyable one. We realized on Tuesday(5/5) after Timothy spent a day throwing
up that his NJ tube had been pulled back into his stomach and he we took
him to the hospital to have it replaced. On Friday(5/8) Timothy had his
1 week check up with the dr. He weighs 8 pounds 4 ounces and is 20 inches
long. Timothy is still having Brady spells and has also been having apnea
spells. The monitor that we have for him records his alarms and events
and then we take the monitor to the company and they download and make
a print out for us everything.
May ?th-- Timothy has been doing well at home.
On Monday(5/11) we took Timothy back up to the hospital because he was
dehydrated and he had been throwing up so we thought his NJ tube had become
dislodged again, but come to find out it hadn't been. So, the dr. thinks
he has a stomach
bug. Timothy had an x-ray taken to determine
the placement of his NJ tube and it showed it was fine but the x-ray did
show that he has a fractured rib. Well had a fractured rib they are judging
it to be about 6 weeks old and it has healed nicely. The think maybe it
was fractured during CPT(this is a form of therapy where a respiratory
therapist tries to loosen secretions by pounding on the chest). They are
doing a full body x-ray to make sure there are no more fractures or breaks.
May 30th-- Timothy turned 4 months old on
the 28th of this month. He went to the dr. last on the 27th. His reflux
is to severe to be controlled with medication. He is still aspirating into
his lungs and requires oxygen at times. His NJ feeds have been turned up
to a rate of 25 ccs an hour to give him his calorie intake. By bottle he
is getting 25 ccs(30 is an ounce) with 3/4 of a tsp. of cereal. We will
see the doctor weekly for another 2 weeks and then we will schedule surgery(Nissen-I
will add a link to this procedure shortly so you can see exactly what it
is) for his reflux. Timothy tries to be a happy baby but is usually in
to much pain to be a happy baby. He does smile for us occasionally and
can roll over when he is really mad. But doesn't try to roll over just
for the heck of it. We are hoping to have the surgery done the end of June.
The drs. want to wait a little bit longer so he can have that much more
time to grow. At his last visit he weighed 9 pounds even. On the 3rd of
June he goes in for his 4 month baby check. His Apnea and Brady episodes
have increased over the last couple of weeks.
June 4th-- Timothy's check up went well. He
weighed 10 pounds 7 ounces and is almost 22 inches long. He will be 5 months
on the 28th.
June 22nd-- This week we got tired of listening
to Timothy screaming and not knowing what was wrong so we decided to just
feed him when he was hungry and give him what he wanted. Well that was
the majority of his problem..he was hungry. He was eating so well that
we pulled his tube out on Saturday.(We knew he was seeing the dr. monday).
Timothy has gotten big enough that he can handle the reflux better. He
is drinking 4 ounces of formula(24 cal.) every 2 to 3 hours. We have also
started him on cereal. As long as Timothy can keep his intake where it
is or greater he will not need the NJ tubing anymore. So, it looks like
we don't have to worry about surgery as long as things keep going like
they are.
July 8th-- Timothy is now off his reflux meds
and doing well. On 7/2 Timothy became monitor free when we were able to
turn in all the equipment. He drinks around 40 ounces of formula a day
as well as cereal/baby food in the morning and evening. Timothy now weighs
11 pounds 8 pounds and is just over 22 inches. He isn't rolling over yet
but its just a matter of time now. He is gaining strength everyday. He
smiles and giggles and loves to watch baseball. He goes back to the dr.
on 7/29, for his 6 month baby check. We are expecting him to get a clean
bill of health at that time and possibly even be on the charts for his
age group in weight and height.
July 11th-- Timothy has his front two bottom
teeth. The first one came in yesterday and the other one today.
July 29th-- At Timothy's 6 month check-up
he did get a clean bill of health. He weighed 14 pounds 10 ounces and was
23 1/3 inches long. He is eating 3 meals a day and loves to giggle and
play with his brothers.
August 17-- Timothy weighs 16 pounds 1 ounce
and is 23 1/3 inches long. He rolls from his tummy to his back but not
from back to tummy.
January 10, 2000-- Timothy turns 2 on the
28th of this month. It's so hard to believe. He is a very active toddler.
He enjoys playing with hs brothers(actually beating up on them). I'll update
more after his 2 year checkup. But estimating at this time I'd say he weighs
about 28/30 pounds. Not sure about his height but he seems to where his
brothers were at this time. Pictures are also coming soon.
April 29, 2000-- Timothy had his check-up
last week. He weighs 27 lbs. 6 ozs. and is 33 1/2 inches tall. In his age
group he is in the 25th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height.
He's not much of a talker but is really trying to form words now. His vocabulary
right now consists of Blue(blues clues), Bear(in the big blue house), Bye,
Mama, Da(dad). As with James we used Baby Signs with Timothy and although
it took him a little longer to catch on he now makes up his own signs for
things he needs which is good but frustrating until you figure out what
he is talking about. He loves to play cars and trucks and is starting to
build houses with his waffle blocks. Although he shows no interest in potty
training right now we are going to give it a go over the summer and see
what happens but mom isn't expecting him to want to do it but it's worth
a shot.
