" Joseph Hadsell b. before 1695, d 9-25-1728, m. 11-10-1715 Rachel, dau Wm.& Mary (Sanders) Crumb. Joined together in wedlock by Peter Crandell, Justice of the Peace, in the bounds of Westerly, RI. Occupation: farmer, blacksmith and boatman. Resided near Westerly RI. Nov 13, 1727, the town council of Westerly grants Rachel Administratix of Joseph's estate and assigns Teadaty Rhodes, John Maxon and John Hill appraisers. The inventory--a long list--includes a complete blacksmith shop, bellows, vice, anvil and all the tools, horses, cattle, a long list of household goods, farm tools, a valuable boat and a farm. On March 29 1742, she came before the council and gave accounting of her administration. She was allowed 78 lbs 9s, 3d. for keeping her dead husband's children. She married second time Obadiah Pendleton of Westerly."

The Crumb Genealogy Descendants of Daniel Crumb of Westerly Rhode Island complied by Clara Crumb Fisk 1956 pg 18 "...1727, Nov 3 The Town council ordered inventory of Hadsall's estate and appointed Rachel administratrix. She presented account of Estate before she married Pendleton. It was voted that Rachel be allowed 75-9-8 for keeping two of her children while Hadsell's widow."
2. i. JAMES2 HADSELL, b. June 05, 1725/26, Saybrook Township, Middlesex,
Connecticut; d. June 30, 1778, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.
In 1762, James Hadsell Was one of the first settlers in the Wyoming Valley, PA.
He settled in Forty Fort. This fort was so named because it protected forty families. James had a 600 acre tract of land along the Susquehanna River. His land started at Sutton Creek and included a large Island called , "Hadsell Island". He was a farmer and owned a tannery. In 1776, he and James Sutton built and operated the first saw mill and gristmill in Exeter Township.
James Hadsell killed at the Wyoming Valley Massacre in Luzerne County,
Pennsylvania in 1778. He was part of local militia fighting against British and
Indians.
He is accepted by the DAR as a Patriot.
Some researchers have James Hadsell's birth date as, 04 Feb 1725, in Westerly, RI.
