Artists I've Seen Live
Here's a list of bands and solo artists I've seen live. It's probably not very interesting to anybody except me, but I need a place to write this down before I get old and forget everything. I've probably already forgotten some, so this isn't a complete list.

Welcome to the music reviews section. This page kinda sucks because I never update it and the reviews are kind of old now...plus nobody really cares about my opinion anyway. So from now on, I won't do any fancy reviews, I'll just have this simple table to show you all my highly regarded opinion.
Each review will have either "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". Thumbs up means I'd buy the album again if I could go back in time. Thumbs down doesn't necessarily indicate a bad CD, just one I wouldn't buy again. The reason most CDs seem to get thumbs up is because I'm smart so I try not to buy crappy ones. :)
Note: most reviews will now go in the Stuff Review section or on the main page.

The Chemical Brothers

Surrender

Very cool. I wish there were less songs with lyrics though...these guys shine when it's just them and their computers.

Mechanical Animals

Marilyn Manson have produced yet another brilliant album. Their new image brings a different style of music, yet it remains vaguely familiar. How could you not love these guys?

Way up.

Space Monkeys

The Daddy of Them All

It was bound to happen: Oasis meets electronica. The funny thing is, it works. This is one of the most overlooked albums of 1997.

Version 2.0

An awesome rocky pop electronic type album. I'd say this is the best album I've heard this year. (So far)

Way up.

The Crystal Method

Vegas

Mainstream electronica at its best. If you like that song in the Gap commercials, buy this CD.

Bjork

Homogenic

Yet another great album from Bjork. Not as mainstream and accessible as her last major album, Post, but still great. |

Here are some older and fancier reviews:
Aerosmith - Nine Lives
 |
Aerosmith has been around a looong time. You'd think that after 23 years in the business they'd start running out of good ideas. Nope. Their latest album, Nine Lives, lives up to the high standards they've set for themselves. It has a nice variety of songs, from fast paced songs like "Crash" to slower ones like "Hole in My Soul" plus nice medium paced ones like the first single, "Falling in Love (is hard on the knees)". Also, Nine Lives doesn't suffer from the problem of a lot of the songs sounding the same (ie: 1993's Get a Grip). This album is a must for any Aerosmith fan. Thumbs up. |
Aqua - Aquarium
Aqua, a.k.a The People That Sing That Barbie Song, has a nice album here. It's full of catchy little dance songs that will get stuck in your head and make you buy the CD even if you don't want to. Not that that's a bad thing. Aquarium is a solid collection of simple tunes that are fun to listen to. There's no deep lyrical content or anything, but who cares? If you like Barbie Girl, you'll probably like the rest of this CD. Thumbs up.

Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole
Everyone's saying that "electronica" or just "electronic music" is gonna be the next big thing in music. So me, wanting to be hip with the young crowd, went out and bought something in that genre. Dig Your Own Hole is a nice collection of pure instrumental dance music, with a few refreshing vocal moments (like Setting Sun, with the voice of Noel Gallagher of Oasis). The CD is best listened to with headphones or a stereo with one of them sub woofer bass boost things (there's lots of bass). Well, I don't know if it's the music of the future, but it's certainly some good music. Thumbs up.

Daft Punk - Homework
|
I bought this CD purely because of the first single, Da Funk, a really weird but cool tune. But when I got the CD home and listened to it, I discovered that the rest of the album wasn't very much like Da Funk. Sure, most of the songs are really weird, sometimes cool, but none of them really sound as...FULL as Da Funk. There's some certain little thing that seems to be missing in this CD that I can't put my finger on. Or my thumb, for that matter. There are some songs that almost reach fullness, but they seem to drag on for waaaaay too long (ie: Around The World). This isn't a bad CD; I'm sure some people will like it, but I just barely give it a thumbs down.

Jewel - Pieces of You
First of all, I have to tell you that this review is probably unfair. I've only listened to the CD once. The reason for this is that Pieces of You is just plain boring. Almost every song is just an acoustic guitar and Jewel Kilcher. Don't get me wrong, Jewel is very talented and I do like a lot of her songs, but a whole album of it is just too much for me. If you like the radio version of "You Were Meant for Me" (the harder version, with an electric guitar), don't expect to find it here. The version on the album is even different than the one in the music video, and in my opinion, not as interesting. Jewel's next album is supposed to be a bit heavier, and I look forward to it. However, this one's not for me. Thumbs down.

The Prodigy - Fat of the Land
|
The Prodigy's much-anticipated new album is pure coolness. With energetic music, spanning several genres,
that sounds really good when played really loud, this CD just kicks ass. It might be surprising to some people that a lot of it is instrumental, without that wacky singer guy you hear in the first two singles, "Breathe" and "Firestarter". But who needs him? Go buy this CD, turn up the bass, and enjoy. Thumbs up.

The Tea Party - Transmission
With their previous two albums (Splendor Solis and The Edges of Twilight) ,The Tea Party has always been known as the band that fuses Eastern and Western sounds in their music. With Transmission, everyone is hyping the fact that they use a few electronic elements in the music. I didn't notice. Transmission does sound very different than the other two CD's, but it's definitely not the electronic elements that make it stand out. While some songs could be right off a Nine Inch Nails album, most mix the electronic effects in subtly. The first single, "Temptation", gives a good impression of what to expect from the album; short, fast, heavy, entertaining songs. Of course there are also a few slower songs, which are also quite good. The only complaint I have about this CD is that some of the songs, especially the slower ones, sound very similar to each other. Other than that, thumbs up.
