Me & A.L.!

Special thanks to Caren Browning (understudy for Beatrice!) You made this trip GREAT!(Jan. 1998)
Caren, Thanks again (May 1998) We came to see you star as Bea and you did not dissapoint, you were SENSATIONAL! You are every bit the actress Allison Janey is and she should be proud to have you there for her! A superb job! Remember, Anthony can only look wonderful as Eddie if Beatrice is perfect! Thanks for the memory, you are a wonderful friend!

The play A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE is written by Arthur Miller, and this

adaptation was overseen by Arthur Miller.

The play is a period piece, set in Brooklyn, about a longshoreman, Eddie, unable to accept or ignore the feelings he has for his niece, who he and his wife have raised. My impression was that the play is actually the slow unraveling of Eddie's realization that he had feelings for her that shouldn't exist and his inability to acknowledge or even allow himself to consider the existence of these feelings. Due to the era that the play is written for, there was no safety net for Eddie, no way to speak or talk about his feelings, and to him, no way they should exist.

Eddie's inability to acknowledge his emotions, to himself or his wife, provides the beginning of a downward spiral, pressed on by his unwillingness to see life for what it is, and his inability to let go of emotions he won't even allow himself to accept.
Anthony LaPaglia as Eddie is so amazingly convincing, he made me actually feel the emotions that Eddie was feeling, and unless you see the play you will never understand the true range of his acting ability. There is so much more to live stage, there are no second takes, and there were none needed! He was remarkable!

Allison Janey as his wife Beatrice was fantastic! In her every movement and facial expression she actually acted the point of the entire play.
The entire undercurrent of Eddie's feelings for his niece are shown in every little detail of her facial expressions, actions and reactions more than words. Beatrice, in my opinion is the key to the play working, you would never get to the complete understanding of Eddie's obsession without her performance being exact. The emotions are played out not in words but mostly in Bea's expressions and actions. A wonderful job!
All in all, this was a fantastic play, and a fantastic trip!

CONGRATULATIONS CAST & CREW!
