When the TV Guide Channel visited the
set of Sports Night, Joshua had this to say about co-star Robert Guillaume:
Also, I remember seeing Soap.
He was like the breakout, stand-out character on that show and on
Benson. It was a great lesson in film acting, watching Robert Guillaume,
because sometimes you get drawn into trying to do too much, and you're
doing things with your face, or you're desperately trying to emote.
And Robert just plays the scene, does it incredibly simply and very
dignified. He's a very classy actor.

As Joshua describes the movie, "It's a romantic comedy about three
guys who try to marry rich wives." John Stamos, Joshua, and Shemar Moore play
the three guys and Gabrielle Anwar also co-stars. The trio of lead actors also
acted as presenters on the FOX network's presentation of the Billboard Music

- Joshua Malina and John Stamos Chat Transcript
Joshua graciously took the time to answer questions from his
fans at the Sports Night Club. Lots of great Q&A are contained within. Thanks
to Oasis for putting the whole thing together and inviting me to take part
in the proceedings.
Sarah, of the Sports Night mailing list at ONElist, graciously agreed to
let me post this interview she did with Joshua for her column. It's well worth
the read.
Joshua always provides well thought-out answers to his fans' questions.
Don't take my word for it, read it yourself!
Hollywood Squares [Syndicated television game show, October 4-8, 1999]
Joshua spent a week as one of the celebrity squares on the updated version
of Hollywood Squares, featuring Whoopi Goldberg as the centre square and Tom
Bergeron as the host.
Joshua Malina's very first on-line chat went very smoothly, with many great
questions answered, including his favorite Sports Night episode, TV shows,
colour, and toothpaste(!). Read the chat for yourself by going to the link
above.
Kill the Man (1999) [Independent film, limited release]
Luke Wilson and Joshua Malina star as friends whose copy shop- "Stan and
Bob's Long Shot Copies" -is going under because of the major chain copy shop-
"King Co.'s" across the street. In an effort to save their business, the guys
decide to take revenge with the assistance of Seth, lead singer of Stink Puppy
(Phillip Rhys), Marky Marx, self-proclaimed part-time urban guerilla (Phil
LaMarr), and Stan's unhappy girlfriend Vicki (Paula Devicq) Michael McKean
and Teri Garr also co-star as Vicki's loopy parents.
Having finally gotten the opportunity to see Kill the Man, I highly recommend
it as a light, funny, sometimes silly (but in a good way) rental. Joshua is
especially funny as the aggressive, slightly uptight, slightly high-strung
Bob. I can't even begin to describe how good he is in this movie.
Kill the Man generated quite a bit of buzz at the Sundance Film Festival
in 1999. It is now available on video exclusively at Blockbuster Video locations,
which is rather ironic, considering the anti-corporate chain stance taken
in the film. Rent it today!

Sports Night (1998-2000) [Television series, ABC]
Sports Night is a half-hour hybrid of comedy, drama, and verbal sportsmanship
that takes place behind the scenes of a SportsCenter-like television
show, also called Sports Night. Created by Aaron Sorkin (who has nary
done a project without Joshua Malina), and featuring a talented cast that
handles the comedy with as much ability as the drama, every episode passes
by at a breathless pace, in an intoxicating whirlwind of banter, beliefs,
and emotional turmoil.
Sports Night garnered 3 1999 Emmy nominations: Outstanding Multi-Camera
Picture Editing For a Series (episode "Small Town", editor Janet Ashikaga,
A.C.E.), Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series (episode "The Apology", writer
Aaron Sorkin), Oustanding Directing For a Comedy Series (episode "The Pilot",
dir. Thomas Schlamme). The cast was also nominated for Outstanding Performance
of an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the 6th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Cast: Josh Charles (Dan), Peter Krause (Casey), Felicity Huffman (Dana),
Sabrina Lloyd (Natalie), Joshua Malina (Jeremy), and Robert Guillaume (Isaac).
Supporting Cast: Kayla Blake, Timothy Davis-Reed, Greg Baker, Ron Ostrow,
Jeff Mooring.

Joshua Malina and his Sports Night co-star Peter Krause join forces in this
film, also featuring Jennifer Grant and Leah Lail.
Bulworth (1998) [Major motion picture]
OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY: JOSHUA MALINA (Feldman) has appeared in films such as
Infinity, The American President, In the Line of Fire, A Few Good Men and
Malice. His television credits include the recent mini-series From the Earth
to the Moon, the movie-of-the-week Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills, as
well as appearances on Tracey Takes On and The Larry Sanders Show. He appeared
on Broadway in A Few Good Men, and in the regional theatrical productions
of We Interrupt This Program, Distant Fires, Pillow Talk and Marx Brothers
and Sketch-O-Rama.
Bulworth, a 1999 Academy Award nominee for Best Screenplay, stars Warren
Beatty as Senator Jay Bulworth, an aging politician who takes a contract out
on his own life and begins to tell his voters the ugly truth about his politics.
Oliver Platt and Joshua Malina play Bulworth's political aides, who fear the
fate of their own careers over the stability of their candidiate. When it
is revealed that Bulworth's new, no-bull image proves to be a hit, the two
men jump onboard to exploit it. Halle Berry also co-stars as Nina, a tough
young woman who becomes Bulworth's unlikely match in love.
Joshua Malina won the role of Bill Feldman through an informal play reading
at Aaron Sorkin's house. The audience included such notables as Warren Beatty,
Annette Bening, and Garry Shandling, and both Beatty and Shandling would later
offer Mr. Malina roles; Beatty's in Bulworth, Shandling's in a multiple episode
stint on The Larry Sanders Show.
The Larry Sanders Show: "Off Camera," "Another List", "The Beginning of
the End", "Adolf Hankler" [Television episodes, HBO]
Joshua Malina was fortunate enough to catch the eye of the man behind Larry
Sanders, Garry Shandling, at a play reading (see the notes on Bulworth). Many
months after the reading, Mr. Malina got the call to become an integral part
of the final season of The Larry Sanders Show. The talk-show-within-a-show
utilized him as Kenny Mitchell, a suit from the network who is made a creative
consultant for the show. Described to perfection by the Official Larry Sanders
Show website as a "network weasel par excellence", Kenny annoys and frustrates
to the detriment of the show.
Mr. Malina also made an appearance earlier on, in the show's second season,
playing a different character, Robert Brody.
Easily some of Joshua Malina's most visible work to date, and he does a
fabulous job in his portrayal of corporate slime (which also earned him a
very positive mention in Entertainment Weekly). The Larry Sanders Show currently
reruns nightly on HBO Signature.

Signature Schedule: The Larry Sanders Show- Find out if Joshua Malina's
episodes are airing anytime soon.
Tracey Takes On...: "Vanity", "Law", "Health" [Television episodes, HBO]
Joshua Malina guest-starred in three episodes of Tracey Ullman's sketch
comedy series, in which a different topic provided the theme for each episode.
Of the episodes, only "Vanity" is available on commercial video (packaged
along with two other Tracey Takes On... episodes). Joshua plays Jordan, a
doormat of a legal assistant to defense attorney Sydney Kross, one of Ullman's
regular characters.
If you get the new channel HBO Comedy, Tracey Tatkes On... has been airing
on weeknights. All of Joshua Malina's episodes are from the latter half of
the first season (numbers 6, 7, and 9).

Lots of detailed information about all of Tracey Ullman's works, including
a guide for Tracey Takes On...
Clockwatchers (1997)
Toni Collette, Parker Posey, Lisa Kudrow, and Alanna Ubach
star as four temps who suffer the indignities of temporary employment in
this dark comedy directed by Jill Sprecher.
Joshua Malina has a very tiny part as the receptionist at
the office where the women work. He's spotted most prominently in the very
first scene, in which he refuses to acknowledge anybody until the clock
hits the hour exactly.
The American President (1995)
The American President, one of the many Joshua Malina – Aaron
Sorkin collaborations, stars Michael Douglas as the widowed president of
the United States and Annette Bening as the lobbyist he embarks on a romance
with. Fans of Sports Night will enjoy Sorkin’s trademark wit and dialogue,
as well as a colorful supporting cast of politicos that includes Michael
J. Fox, Samantha Mathis, John Mahoney, David Paymer, Richard Dreyfuss, and
Martin Sheen.
Joshua Malina has a small role as David, the earnest and
good-natured assistant of Annette Bening’s Sydney. While he only has a couple
of significant lines to speak of, they’re great little quips. The American
President is a solid romantic comedy-drama worth renting on its merits alone,
Mr. Malina’s appearance is just a nice bonus.
A Few Good Men (Opened Nov. 15, 1989) [Broadway theatre production]
PLAYBILL BIOGRAPHY: JOSHUA MALINA (Ensemble) recently graduated
from Yale University, where he majored in theatre. As an undergraduate,
he appeared in many productions and sang with the Spizzwinks(?), a men's
a cappella group. Favorites roles at Yale include Gary in Sister Mary
... , Moonface in Anything Goes, and Charlie Guidance in the
original vaudeville show The Egg Dance .... On television he appeared
as Mike in "Family Album U.S.A." Mr. Malina adapted The Importance of
Being Earnest and Plautus' The Haunted House for Classic Theatre
for Schools. He was last seen on stage in Marble Theatre Co.'s production
of Dionysus in '89. Mr. Malina studies acting with Suzanne Shepherd.
A Few Good Men, written by frequent Joshua Malina collaborator
Aaron Sorkin, is a courtroom drama that centres around a naval base in Cuba,
where a a group of navy lawyers confront the boundaries of discipline and
authority. The play was very successful in its Broadway run, with well over
500 performances. Tom Hulce and Megan Gallagher starred as Lt. j.g. Daniel
Kaffee and Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway, with Mark Nelson as Lt. j.g. Sam Weinberg
and Stephen Lang as Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep. Joshua Malina co-starred in
A Few Good Men for its entire Broadway run (and tryouts), starting out as
a member of the ensemble, then going on to play Pfc. Loudon Downey for about
the last nine months of the play. (Pfc. Loudon Downey, a role reprised by
James Marshall in the film adaptation, is one of the defendants.) Mr. Malina
also went on to the national tour of A Few Good Men, playing Corporal Howard.
Joshua Malina's Sports Night co-star Ron Ostrow was also part of the ensemble.
The play was adapted into the Academy Award-nominated film
starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Jack Nicholson. It is an excellent
film, and also features Mr. Malina in a small role as an orderly.
