It's not too often that a show can totally impress me, but Macross Plus did. This series of four episodes is incredible. The animation is breathtaking...a perfect blend of traditional and computer animation. The story is excellent, involving complicated ideas, and witty dialogue while keeping with the traditional Macross theme of the power of music (with a different twist from previous Macross shows).
I've seen the both the 4 OAV series and the movie (OAV and movie released by Manga Entertainment - the OAV is availiable in both dub and sub, while to my knowledge, the movie is only availiable as a sub). At first I'm tempted to say that I prefer the OAV series since that is what I saw first, however, they are both equally excellent. In fact, if you liked one version, you'll love the other. The movie is basically the OAV, with 20 mins worth of new footage - including a brand new Sharon Apple song! I did feel that a lot of the OAV was lost in the movie (some of the footage from the OAV was cut), but a there is also a lot more added into the movie, so I cannot decide which I like better!
A common arguement in comercially released anime is the dub/sub debate. I tend to like subs better, but I must say how impressed I was with the dub version of Macross Plus! The voice actors that Manga Ent. got to do the dubs are incredible! I was impressed at how well the voice actors expressed the characters' depth of emotions and personalities. I find the quality of the dubbing of Macross Plus to be of a very rare quality. Sub fans - you have to see the Macross Plus dubs!
I'm afraid I don't have too many images here, but the link after the pics has tons of cool Macross Plus pics! I highly recomend going to this web site, it has some of the best Macross Plus pics I've seen on the net. (tons of cool Isamu shots!)
