Last Week

I'm glad to see that so many of you have left Valentine's for me. We're going to have a tough time picking the best ones! I had a great week last week because I got to spend some time with my family. Lisa, my sister, came into town last Thursday, and my parents came into town on Friday. Lisa and I did a lot of cool things together during her visit. Thursday night, we went to the Cirque du Soleil in Orange County. Wow, what a great show! I really enjoyed it and recommend it highly to all who like to see great acrobats in action. My favorite parts of the show were the contortionists and the acrobats. On Friday, I went on a tour of Los Angeles with Lisa and her boyfriend. It was his first visit to California, so we tried to show him some of the more interesting things to see. We walked around Manhattan Beach, and also did show window shopping in Beverly Hills.

It's always great to see my parents. I didn't get to spend much time with them during their stay, but we did have a nice dinner at a restaurant in Los Angeles called the Ivy. Early Saturday morning, I flew up to Toronto for the opening of the 1997 Special Olympics Winter Games. If you've been reading my journals, you know how near and dear to my heart the Special Olympics are. The highlight of the weekend for me was doing a gymnastics clinic with Nadia Comaneci for some of the athletes. I also got to meet some interesting folks, including Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of the Special Olympics, her husband Sargent Shriver, and Canadian skating star Brian Orser. Toronto seems like a great city, I hope to go back and visit again soon.

School/This Weekend

I've got two midterms on Thursday, one in my Biology class, and the other in Ethnomusicology. I also have a speech to write for my Speech class over the weekend. I've been studying very hard for both my exams, but I'm a little nervous. I'll let you know next week how they went. On Saturday I'm going to New York City for the ESPN awards called the "ESPYs." I'm really looking forward to this event, as there will be a lot of sports celebrities there. I'll speak to you again soon.
