I spent much of the last week in Tempe, AZ. I mentioned in my previous journal that I was serving as the Grand Marshal for the MicroAge Fiesta Bowl Parade. On Monday I went to a luncheon at the Civic Center where they introduced the players from the two teams, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Texas Longhorns. The band from each school performed as well. I also got a chance to meet the top 35 high school cross country runners in Arizona. Each runner runs the mile long Fiesta Parade course before the parade.
Tuesday was the parade itself, and over 400,000 people came. I tried to wave to every one as I rode in a new car from Plymouth called the Prowler. During the course of the parade, I perfected several waving techniques, including "the Windshield Wiper," and "the unscrewing of the light bulb" wave. (LOL) Tuesday Night I went to a black tie dinner called the Escada Ball. The ball was a lot of fun, there was dancing, and a silent auction. Many members of my family were there, including my parents, and my aunt and uncle.
All the activity must have tired me out, because I slept 11 hours on Tuesday night. I didn't get up on Wednesday until noon. I had a great New Year's Day! The Fiesta Bowl was very exciting, I went out onto the field halftime to greet the crowd, and I watched part of the game from the sideline. (Penn State won the game 38-15). I had a lot of fun taking pictures from the press box, and my friends at Athlete Direct put one up in my gallery. (Let me know what you think).
New Year's Resolutions
1996 was a terrific year for me, and I want 1997 to be even better. I've come up with some resolutions to help me be a better person in the next year.
1) Drink more water. (Doctors advise drinking 8 glasses a day).
2) Get back on a regular exercise program
3) Be more optimistic about life
4) Write more letters to my Grandma.
Just to let you all know, my ankle has improved a lot, and I feel much better. I want to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year. I'll speak to you soon.
