Oscars galore:
Oscar #1
Oscar #2-Kate Winslet Oscar #3-Red Carpet Cameron
Oscar #4-Winner
James Cameron
Titanic director James Cameron
and his actress wife Linda
Hamilton were dressed to kill --
Hamilton in a sky-blue Pamela
Dennis creation, Cameron in a
tux by Valentino.
Oscar #5-Winslet arrivesKate Winslet
Titanic star Kate Winslet, in an
emerald green Alexander
McQueen for Givenchy, chose
the designer specifically,
"because he's a funky designer
who knows how to dress
women." A special bonus: the
emerald hue matched her eyes:
"Somebody just told me [that],
but I didn't realize it when I
picked it."
Oscar #6-Cameron Backstage holding Oscars
It was hardly sink or
swim for the Titanic
party tossed by
Paramount and 20th Century Fox. Under a white tent erected in a huge
parking lot in Beverly Hills, "survivors" of the epic that swept the night's
awards began celebrating at 6:30 and didn't stop until dawn.
Oscar #7-Party animals
Though
Leonardo DiCaprio, reported to be in New York, was a no-show, happy
revelers included (from left) model Carolyn Murphy, the movie's villain Billy
Zane and the movie's mother Frances Fisher. Director-producer James
Cameron received a thunderous ovation when he arrived with his wife,
actress Linda Hamilton, and a big hand was also heard for nominee Gloria
Stuart, who lost to L.A. Confidential's Kim Basinger. Kate Winslet came
late to the festivities. Celine Dion, who sang the movie's Oscar-winning
song both in the film and at the Oscar show, told people she was proud to
be part of the event.
