Last summer, Vincent Kartheiser plowed through snowdrifts, hiked up mountains and swam through freezing rivers in the film Alaska. This season, movie audiences will have the chance to see Vinnie take on more adventurous stunts (most of them indoors!) in the action film Masterminds.
This new flick stars former Starship commander Patrick Stewart as a bad guy who holds a private boarding school--and it's students--hostage. Vinnie, however, plays a 16-year-old computer hacker and rebel whose sister is one of the captives. "It's kind of like Die Hard meets Home Alone," Vinnie explains. "My character, who knows the school quite well after being expelled from it, decides to foil the plot."
Like the characters he's played in both Masterminds and Alaska, Vinnie's a bit of a bad boy himself. Although he's a really bright guy, he admits that he never felt comfortable in the clique-infested world of high school. He's much happier now that he's completing his final year of high school in a home study program where he can pursue extra credit in the subjects that interest him most--like literature and history. College, as well as more film roles, are definitely in his future. "I'm going to UCLA so I can continue with the movies," he says.
Style-wise, Vinnie is just as original as the characters he plays. For Masterminds, he grew out his dark hair to shoulder-length, but he cut it after the filming was done. "It's sort of medium-length now," he explains. With a taste for vintage jeans, wild-patterned shirts and a great love of cool hats, Vincent clearly is a one-of-a-kind guy. "I need to constantly be changing," he explains.
