As she sat their sipping her cup of coffee she could sense that someone was looking at her, so she looked up and saw a handsome man with black hair and brown eyes. "My name is Tom Johnsmith, can I sit with you?" he asked politely, and Katie nodded, looking at the other tables, which were all full. "Seems to be a busy day today," she said with a smile, finally feeling like her life was going on the right track. "Yeah, it is usually busy here," Katie smiled in answer and introduced herself. She decided to tell him that she lived in Florida for a couple of years, instead of a couple of hours. The two chatted, and he surprised her when he asked her to go out for dinner, but even though she was surprised, she excepted.
She put on a blue sun dress that reached just below her knees, and a little makeup. They talked, ate and laughed. She finally felt like she was going somewhere with her life, she trusted this man, and she was happy. That night he kissed her, which she thought was a little fast, but she didn't mind. He kissed her again, but this time she backed away, he was getting rough for the first date, he grabbed her wrist and spoke into her face.
"Don't do that again," he spoke angerly. Katie didn't think much of it, he was so handsome and looked so harmless, he wouldn't hurt her, would he? "I'm sorry...You are moving a little to fast...." she said slowly, looking into his fierce brown eyes. He nodded, softening his expression and apologized. "I am sorry...but you look so beautiful, it will never happen again," he reassured her and gave her a small kiss. He ran to his car and yelled, "I will see you tomorrow," he then jumped into his car, without waiting for an answer.
Katie let herself into the apartment and heard the phone ringing, which she picked up. "Katie?" Lauren's voice asked. "Hi Lauren, how are you doing?" Katie asked, still with a hint of confusion in her voice from the handsome man that had just left her. "Great, I talked to Nick-" "You didn't tell him about me, did you?" Katie asked carefully. "No, of course not." The two young women talked for awhile, but Katie didn't tell Lauren about Tom, she had begun to feel a little scared, he looked so mad when she backed away, maybe he was just stressed, she reassured herself.
The next day Katie went out with Tom, all was well. They talked about sports, politics and other things that they had in common. He couldn't hurt a fly, Katie kept reassuring herself, praying that she was right. He kissed her and left, telling her to meet him tomorrow at the same restaurant as last time. They went out for a couple of weeks, Tom getting a little rougher each date, but Katie knew that deep down he was a good guy, he would never hurt her.
On their 4 week anniversary Tom invited himself into her apartment, without asking. She smiled through it, hoping that he was not going to do anything crazy. He immediately got onto her bed and told her to come to him. "Tom...I don't think so," she said with a small smile, the fear rising in her, but she didn't show it. "NOW!" he screamed at her. "Tom, how about I freshen up?" She said with a brilliant white smile, acting as if this was what she had wanted all along. He nodded with a smile, but then looked down at his pocket, showing her that he had a small pistol stored there.
"You better, and you better comeback," he said evilly as he looked down at the gun that Katie was sure would be the thing that killed her. She had an idea, she went to her dresser and got a pair of pajamas and went into the bathroom that was down the hall. She thought that the strangest thing about the apartment was that there was a telephone in the bathroom, she had never seen anything like it, but now she thanked god that it was there. When she had gotten her nightgown she had also grabbed the number of Brian, he was her last hope, he was the only thing that could save her. She turned the water on and dialed the number that Brian had left by her bedside at the hospital before he left.
A man with a deep voice picked up. "Oh...A.J," she said quietly so Tom couldn't hear her, the fear audible in her voice. "Who is this?" he asked, hoping it wasn't another crazed fan. "Katie...remember me? Is Brian there?" "No, it is only me here, is there something wrong?" he asked, he could sense that something terrible was about to happen. "I need you to call the police and tell them to come here," she gave him the address of her new apartment, "Please come here, pretend you are my brother coming to visit me or something, be careful, he has a gun," she cried into the phone and rose her head to pray to god that there would be a miracle.
"Tommy..." she said in her sexiest voice that she could get out. "Yes?" he stared at her, expecting her to be in the nightgown. She went to the front door and unlocked it, and decided that she knew what had to be done.
