Han caught up to Lis walking down the hall. "Ok what's wrong?" Han asked.
"Nothing that not being the slayer wouldn't fix."
Han looked at her surprised, she'd never mentioned being the slayer at school. "What happened?"
"My dad saw me coming in at 2 am. That and I met two less than adoring fans." Lis looked at Han, "Vamps Han, I ran into 2 of them."
"Oh. Where?"
"Near the park. Snuck up on me. Meet you at the club tonight for a few?"
Han nodded and walked off into her next class, leaving Lis heading for the cafeteria.
Kevin sat with his cousin Brian at the restuarant. "So your a...?" Brian asked, staring at his cousin.
"A helper...a watcher. I make sure she's training, got her stakes with her, help with stuff yadda yadda."
"And this fell to you how?"
"Too long a story, cliff notes version, it runs in the family."
Brian nodded. "I gotta go, but I'll call you later ok?"
"See ya later man." Kevin said and watched his cousin walk away from the table.
Lis walked into the club and looked around. Another night on patrol, well patrolling could wait for a few while she put a little fun back into her life. She found an empty table and sat down, ordering a coke from the passing waiter and waited for Han to show. "Lis?"
Not again, she thought. "Nick?"
"That's me." He said walking out of the shadows and sitting down across from her.
"Have a seat why don't you?" Lis said sarcastically, taking a sip of her drink.
Nick looked her over. "You're patrolling in a dress?"
"Doesn't meet with your approval?"
"Its just..."
"Let me guess, the last slayer wore jeans, maybe sweats?"
Nick's face changed as she mentioned the last slayer.
"Lis!" Han's voice rang out over the loud music in the club.
"Over here!" Lis called, waving her over.
"Hi, Lis meet my missing in action boyfriend Brian."
Brian smiled at her. "Hi."
"Hi Brian, nice meeting you. This is..." she turned around to introduce Nick but he had disappeared. Now that's weird, she thought as she turned to face her friend.
"You had company?" Han asked, sitting down.
"I thought I did." Lis muttered.
Nick walked alone through the park. He pulled his jacket tighter around him and put his hands in his pockets. Even though it was September it was unusually cool.
"You're not supposed to be here." a voice said.
"I know. But I need to think."
"Its too dangerous."
"I can handle it."
"Like you handled it before."
"Just leave me alone." A bit of anger evident in his voice.
"You know I can't."
"Damn you Elle." he turned around and looked at the girl behind him. She was the spitting image of Lis.
"You can't tell her." she said, her green eyes meeting his.
"I know."
"You want to don't you?" she asked, as they walked along.
Nick shook his head. "You didn't ask any questions...she...she asks about everything."
Elle sighed and looked at him. "She's only been the slayer for six weeks."
"True, but..."
"But what? It's hard to accept this as your destiny Nick."
"I'll give her time."
"Good now go before..."
"I know before they find me here." He kissed her cheek and walked off through the park.
Kevin caught up to Lis. "Your a hard woman to track down." he said as he matched her pace.
"Now why would you want to track me down? A slayer mix up perhaps? I wasn't supposed to be called yet?"
"Be serious. I've got news."
Lis stopped. "Is that a new part of your watcher duties?"
"There's anew group of vampires in town." he informed her.
"And there's a new slayer."
"Shh!!" Kevin said looking around to make sure no one had heard her.
"Oh come off it Kev, the vamps are gonna figure the new slayer's in town soon."
"Well you don't need to be the one to inform them of that."
"On the contrary, I think I'm just the one."
"Listen I don't want you on patrol right now. It would be better if you spent your time training."
"Yes sir sargent sir!"
Kevin rolled his eyes. "Lis please."
"Fine I'll head home. Night Kevin.
"Night Lis." he walked back to his car while Lis went on to continue her patrol.
