Bruce Brodnax vs. Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone

Filed: October 10, 1997
Los Angeles County Superior Court

The Case: On October 10, 1997, Brodnax marked the upcoming one-year anniversary of his brush (or crush) with fame by filing a personal-injury complaint against 21-year-old movie star Silverstone. The action seeks unspecified general and compensatory damages, plus hospital and medical expenses. It also claims that the jobless, homeless Brodnax suffered a loss of earnings. Brodnax's attorney, Don Lake Jr. called that last claim a standard filing procedure, not the crux of the case.

Backstory: On October 26, 1996, Bruce Brodnax, a Los Angeles-area homeless man, was walking in a marked crosswalk on Alameda Street, near an entrance to L.A.'s busy Hollywood (101) Freeway when, according to published reports, the 64-year-old pedestrian was knocked to the pavement by a black Ford Bronco driven by actress Alicia Silverstone.

"I guess I hit him," the Clueless star reportedly told police.

Brodnax suffered a fractured arm and shoulder and knee injuries, his attorney, Don Lake Jr., said. Silverstone, who wowed audiences (sort of) with her Batgirl motorcycle skills in Batman & Robin, was not cited by police.

Status: No hearings scheduled.
