Movie News (1998)
Jonathan has been filming a movie with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (Saved By the Bell and Beverly Hills, 90210) most recently in Las Vegas. The movie is entitled Speedway Junky and should hit theatres in 1999! Don't look for Jonathan to be "Mr. Nice Guy" in this independent film. In fact, he actually plays a boy whose dream is to be a professional racer, but he is also a drug addict. More about this movie will be posted soon!
Jonathan has just
been cast in the lead male role in a new
independent movie called “Walking
across Egypt”.
“Walking Across
Egypt” has very little to do with a trek
across the desert as the title may suggest.
The film actually tells the story of a
rebellious 17-year old boy orphan boy
called Wesley Benfield played by
Jonathan, whose life becomes crossed
with a seventy two year old religious
widow from the deep south!
As the difficult relationship between the
two opposite characters develops,
“Egypt” explores how two very different
lives can be changed forever. This movie is based on the book and will start shooting in Houston, Texas, later
in the year (1998).

Jonathan Taylor Thomas is among the celebrities that have donated their time and energy to a
creative collaboration to benefit the Starbright Foundation. The project is the publication of
an all-star retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's timeless tale The Emperor's New Clothes.
The retelling of The Emperor's New Clothes features classic characters from the original tale
including the fashion-conscious Emperor, his Prime Minister and the Honest Boy. "But the roles
have changed a bit, and we've added many new characters, including the arrogant Imperial Mirror,
the Dresser's exasperated Spectacles and even the Emperor's Underwear," explained the project's
Senior Producer Karen Kushell. "Each celebrity wrote a chapter from their character's point of view
and the plot unfolds through their unique perspectives. Everyone brought such fun and imagination to
their chapters; it makes for a wildly creative storytelling experience."
Jonathan tells his chapter of the story from the perspective of the Emperor's teenage son.
The book is being published on October 22nd, 1998.
The audio CD, featuring the celebrity authors voices, will be included as a combination set with the book.
The Starbright Foundation will benefit from the proceeds of the sales.
Jonathan has a part in the hustler racing flick Speedway Junky. This movie is quite rare but deals with issues including racing and gay lifestyle. It is a very different role for Jonathan, probably his most unique. It is available for sale at amazon.com.
