This page is a chronicle of my Danzig experiences, not an attempt at a comprehensive, all encompassing page. If this is what you are seeking, check out my friend Terry's Misfits page.

MY DANZIG HISTORY

For a long time, Danzig wasn't allowed in my house. My mother didn't want me to bring anything so infamous anywhere near her. I'd first become intrigued by the Danzig mythos when I began hearing about him in the ninth grade (circa 1990). Sometime later, one of the guys my mother worked with told her a story concerning his Danzig experiences, and why he'd stopped listening. This story sparked the illogical denial of my musical tastes for some time.

Spooky Danzig Story

It seems that the fellow in question (apparently disturbed beyond our earliest assumptions) was an avid Danzig fan for a time. He'd lie in utter darkness, save for the presence of a few candles, and listen to Danzig to the point of near meditation. It was during one of these sessions that something happened.

Apparently, while shrouded in the Danzig-drenched surroundings, he started to notice a bit of movement, like a faint scuttling around the room, seeming to originate form the celing. After a while, the shape of the entity began to become clear.

It seemed to be some sort of small, animal-like "demon," and it darted around the room in a frenzy. Horrified, he called for his parents, who promptly burst into the room.

Now here's where things get weird. They saw it as well. And it wasn't any bird or squirrel that had been trapped inside, but some kind of demon. It was darting about the room in some mad, frantic display, that sent them into a sprawling terror.

The fellow was always reluctant to comment on the details beyond this point, though he made it quite clear that he'd stopped listening to Danzig, and that I was smart, I'd never start.

* * * *

So, what's a guy to do when told a tale such as this? Well, at first, it had me scared enough to stay away. But, as time passed and the tale lost it's hold over my senses, my curiosity began to overcome me. Eventually, I spurned my mother's wishes (which had also waned in their intensity) and began my search for Danzig.

The first time I heard Danzig was about five years ago, midway through my junior year. I picked up the thrall/demonsweatlive EP and, though it took a while to grow on me, my casual admiration eventually snowballed into near obsession.

What makes Glenn so facinating? Well, partly its the characted he embodies and the charisma he exudes. He is something that is sorely missing in music today, a powerful and captivating personality.

I gradually started picking up the rest of his albums (starting with Danzig II: Lucifuge, still my favorite) until I had amassed quite a collection. I was enthralled by the darkness and power inherent in all of Glenn's songs. I loved his deep, angry vocals.

Eventually, I learned of his involvement with the infamous punk band the Misfits and, later, Samhain.

MY DANZIG EXPERIENCES

Soundwaves in Houston, TX, November 4, 1996

Back in November of 1996, I was greeted with a call from my sister informing me of the fact that Glenn would be making an apperance IN HOUSTON! Obviously, this was too great an oppritunity to pass up and so the next night (November 4th), at a music store called Soundwaves, I met him!

I arrived about an hour early (7pm) and I was about the 20th person in line. An hour later when Glenn made his appearance there were roughly 200-300 people behind me(!)

Anyway, Glenn was very gracious as I heaped praise upon him and he signed my promotional poster (for blackacidevil). He seemed genuinly appreciative of my thanks and admiration, and for this I am very grateful.

It's really hard to fully convey the emotions of this event to someone who has never met a famous individual, much less their "idol." But, as we drew closer and closer to him, it was really hard to believe. The first feeling that was noticable was intense euphoria, coupled with goose bumps and butterflies in my stomach.

It was kind of weird looking into his eyes... very facinating. A truly interesting man and an incredibly exciting experience. Check out my Photo Album for some shots.

Afterward, I had a time of mixed feelings about the whole thing. Glenn had been slightly humbled in my mind, and made more human by my meeting him. Not that this is a bad thing, just that some of his mistique had been lost. But now especially, in a romantasized retrospect, it seems uncanny that the event actually took place. Wow.

Numbers, blackacidevil tour, February 18, 1997

I went with some friends to see Danzig at a club called Numbers and while the opening bands left much to be desired (especially Electric Hellfire Club), Glenn and the boys cooked! He played a large array of his songs, both old and new. However, he skippe my two favorites, "Sistinas" and "I'm the One."

After the show my friends and I stood in the rain for about half an hour until Glenn finally came out to greet his anxious fans. He sat on the top step of the tour bus (so as not to get wet) and allowed for some photo oppritunities. He looked pretty tired, and there were some young ladies he seemed anxious to get back to, but he was still very polite.

I didn't have anything to sign this time, but I did get to sit by him to have my picture taken (as did Amy)! He even made the guy taking the picture redo Amy's since the flash didn't go off the first time.

My friends Terry and Andrea also had their pic taken with him, though he looks really disgusted and worn out. D'oh!

Overall it was quite an experience! I can't wait 'till another chance comes along! Amy and I have been mulling over ways to ensure he remembers us, but that's not something I want to post for everyone to see...

By the Way...

Anyone that would like to share their experiences or thoughts, feel welcome (this includes any Electric Hellfire Club pro/con hate mail)!
