Cheaters Never Prosper

“I can’t believe you signed up without even asking me!” Elizabeth Wakefield fumed.

“But Liz,” Jessica started. “It’s only for one week and it’s my chance to become a famous model!”

Jessica had signed up for a one week modelling session. And the twins had been accepted among hundreds of other girls!

“ Just imagine,” Jessica said, dreamily. “Modelling in skimpy bikinis with all those gorgeous male models watching!”

Though both the girls looked identical, with their sunny Californian looks, and streaked blond hair, that was where the similarities ended. One could always tell them apart, Jessica usually wore shorter skirts and applied heavy make up, whereas Elizabeth wore longer, more sensible clothes, and hardly wore any make up. She had a steady boyfriend, Tom while Jessica kept switching from one guy to the other.

“Liz, please. Don’t get mad. I only did it for your good!” Jessica said sweetly.

“For my good! Huh! Hardly. I somehow get the feeling that Tom isn’t going to be too happy when he finds out!” Elizabeth retorted.

Jessica rolled her eyes. Sure, so Tom wouldn’t be too excited about Elizabeth modelling in skimpy over exposing clothes in the midst of attractive guys, but that was his problem. It was high time Elizabeth had a change. A change from boring old Tom. She had to admit, he was good looking, but other than that he was just plain boring.

“Oh, Liz. Don’t worry. If Tom is as supportive as you say he is, he ought to understand.” Jessica consoled Elizabeth who was lying face down on the bed, the acceptance letter in her clenched hand.

The next day, Elizabeth slowly walked to the TV station where Tom probably was. But when she reached there she got the shock of her life!! There, inside the station was Tom kissing some other girl, whom Elizabeth didn’t know.

She was very tall and looked like a model. She had silky, brown hair, which was cut in a short, chic hairstyle. Her micro miniskirt and tiny top looked like they belonged in a fancy fashion magazine. They were locked in a tight embrace and were kissing passionately.

Elizabeth let out a small gasp and then turned and ran all the way back to her room., tears running freely down her cheeks. She threw herself on the bed and started to sob.

When Jessica reached the room the twins shared, it was dark and silent. Liz must be at the TV station, she thought. Without switiching the light on, she walked inside and laid her heavy shopping bags on the bed. She had just been shopping, and was dying to show Elizabeth her new outfits. They were just right for New York, she thought.

Suddenly she heard a noise from the other side of the bed. It sounded like a sob. She switched the lights on and found a very forlorn Elizabeth shaking with sobs.

“What’s wrong, Liz??”She asked, genuinly concerned. She walked across the room to where Elizabeth was lying, sobbing her heart out, and sat down on the bed.

“Is it something to do with Tom?”

Elizabeth started crying even harder.

“C’mon Liz. Tell me what happened.” Elizabeth told her the whole story between sobs. It felt good to tell someone what was on her mind.

“I always knew Tom was a rat.” Jessica said, after she had finished the story. She turned around, gloomily. Jessica wasn’t exactly cheering her up by calling Tom a rat.

Elizabeth spent most of that day in bed, thinking about Tom or crying.

“C’mon Liz.” Jessic begged. You can’t just lie in bed all your life. Forget about Tom. We’re leaving for New York in two days. We have to pack.” But Elizabeth just sighed and turned over.

She reached for her Diary which was lying on the small table near the bed. Writing in it always made her feel better. It helped her sort out her feelings and emotions and clear all her confusions. When she picked it up a slip of paper fell out. It was a note, Tom had sent her, inviting her for dinner that night. Suddenly, a wave of anger overcame her, and she ripped the note into a million pieces. Then she opened a new page in the diary and began to scribble in it.

Dear Diary,

Today was the most horrible and unreal day in my Life (Other than the day I broke up with Todd) I always thought that Tom was true to me, and would never cheat on me.But I guess what I saw today proves I’m wrong. Really wrong. I can’t believeIt, Diary. Tom was kissing her in the TV station!! And he knew I could enter any moment!! Doesn’t he care even a tiny bit about me and my feelings any more?? What a stupid question! The answer is so obvious. It’s no! Obviously, he didn’t care if I caught him kissing another girl. And the way he was kissing her! I don’t think he’s ever kissed even me that passionately. With that hunger! That much longing! Okay, so maybe I am exaggerating just a wee bit. But diary It’s just so horrible and unbelievable. And on top of that, Jesica’s dragging me To some idiotic modelling session! I’ll have to leave Tom alone here and go to New York! I’ll have to leave him here to do what he wants with that ratty female, who ever she may be.Well, gotta go, Bye, Liz

A tear dropped onto Elizabeth’s diary, and the ink spread. Elizabeth quickly wiped her eyes, and closed her Diary. She had to leave Tom behind and move on. Though she couldn’t bear the thought of it, she had to be strong. She knew she had it in her, and could do it. Though before, she couldn’t ever imagine saying it, she knew there was life after Tom. And all she had to do now, was live it!
