Shakespeare In Love

How it all began...

I bet you are wondering, how did I get into all this into the first place. Well, if you aren't you clicked on the wrong link because that's what this page is about!

I had set up a webpage for my local amateur theatre company and somehow or other some lovely person had tracked it down and decided we were suitable candidates for becoming extras in the film. I received an e-mail detailing the requirements with a telephone number of the casting company.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Having waited just about all my life for such an opportunity, I rang the number and got an appointment to be seen the next day (Saturday 21st February 1998). When I told my boyfriend, he suddenly decided he was interested as well so he rang and got an appointment too.

On the Saturday, we got up very early and caught about three trains to get to the Buspace Studios in Ladbroke Grove. From the station we had to walk a fair way but passing through the Petticoat Lane Market that early wasn't too much of a chore. Having got to the venue, we filled in forms about our vital statistics and previous experience. Then our photos and measurements were taken.

We were briefed (but not very extensively) on what the vague outline of the film was and what we could expect. Finally we were sent on our way with contact numbers and directions to Shepperton Studios and had to wait a nailbiting two weeks to hear when (and if) we would be needed.
