A Day In The Life Of Vincent Kartheiser

Bop July 1996

Seventeen-year-old Vinnie, whom you last saw in The Indian in The Cupboard,
has the unique ability to turn a regular old day in Minnesota into one
that's majorly entertaining. Read about a recent day in his life now, and
later this summer, see him in his next movie, Alaska.
"I woke up at about 11:00 and stumbled out of bed. Then I crawled into the
bathroom, got in the bathtub and fell asleep for another hour. By the time
I woke up, it was noon and I was freezing because the water was cold and
someone had opened the window. So, I got out of the bathtub and [my skin]
was all wrinkly. I dried off, went back in my bedroom and picked up the
same pair of jeans that were on the floor from the night before and threw
on a dirty white t-shirt and an overshirt.
Then I stumbled downstairs, had some cinnamon toast and hot chocolate,
which my mommy [Janet] makes for me every morning, and started doing
chemistry on the floor of the livingroom. Then I took a break to play
Monopoly with my sisters, Colette and Elise. We played for about a half an
hour until the bank ran out of money.
At 1:00 my sister Elise went to work, and I called the driver [training]
school to see if I could go in that day. They said to show up at 2:30, so
around 2:00 my sister Colette and I got in the car and we kind of sped on
over there. I went in and sat with a whole bunch of people. I had Burger
King while I was in class and a Mountain Dew. Three girls behind me talked
about their tanning booths and their nails for three hours and I almost
threw up for five days.At about 5:35, my sister picked me up from class and
we went to the toy store to pick up more Monopoly money--$6.00 worth. We
went home and I told my mom and dad [Jim] about my driver's class. Then my
buddy Aaron swung on by and we went out to Perkins, which is a restaurant
chain kind of like Denny's.We stayed at Perkins for about two and a half
hours. I just had coffee. We talked about our problems, about life and our
goals--Aaron told me that he wanted to be a cop--and things that we had to
change in ourselves and in one another. We stayed there until about 10:00.
Then when I got home, I played Monopoly with my sister for an hour--until
about 11:00. By this time I had a bad headache, I mean scorching bad, so we
watched TV. I heard that Natalie Portman was going to be on the Conan
O'Brien show, so I watched Conan--the God of all late night--but she wasn't
on because she was snowed in on Long Island. So, then I went to my room,
listened to The Doors for about an hour and then went to bed at about
3:00."
