What I've Heard
New News:
8/06 - The producers for 'Another Day In Paradise' are Stephen Chin and Chinese Bookie Pictures.
The budget for 'Another Day In Paradise' was only under 10 million dollars, not a lot in todays movie making standards... The making of the movie was made with help from privet investers.
8/24 - 'Strike' has been released! It was released Friday 21 August 1998. don't expect to find it at your local theater until the 28th though, it's only in limited release right now; the official release for all theater in the U.S. is August 28, 1998. Here is the Miramax site where you can find some more info about it:
Vinnie is now in Canada filming a new movie titled 'Ricky 6'. It sounds like it's going to be just as intense as 'Another Day In Paradise'. He will play the lead role as an acid dropping, worshiper of Satan who gets involved with murdering people! Wow! Also similar to 'Another Day In Paradise', this movie is based on a book ... 'Say You Love Satan' by David St. Clair. Can you say rated 'R'? Thank you very much AMY for posting this new news on my message board!!! Here is the link where you can find out more about the movie :
9/02 - Want to know what Natasha Gregson Wagner (She is playing Rosie in 'ADIP') looks like? Click her name to see her picture.
Here is a review of the movie 'Strike'. Click on the title to go to that site to see the review.
info Here is
some information and a link to find more info on Strike.

This is what is says about Vinnie:
Another role that Kernochan ( the
director) wanted to transcend a simple reading was that of Snake,
Tinka's townie suitor. "He could so easily
have just been like the Fonz or something," she jokes.
"But Vincent Kartheiser was the real thing. He's an artist
and a loon, a true original and a free spirit. He's the kind of
boy mothers want to lock their daughters up from. From the
minute I met him, I had this breathless feeling, as if he was
being followed around by this huge potential future."
Thank you Jen Kerr for the link and the info!
09/14 - Oh wow! Do i have some news...But I can't tell you here and I can't share it with you just yet. I will be adding a new link to the main page called 'Another Day In Paradise'. It will take you to my new Vincent Kartheiser page. There on that new page you will find something truely awesome! But until then here's the news...
Right now Vinnie is filming a new movie titled 'Ricky Six', it's shooting in the following locations : Fredericton, New Brunswick (this is where he is now), St. George, N.B. and Woodstock, N.B. The film started shooting a few weeks ago. Here's some info on the movie. It stars: Vincent Kartheiser, Chad Christ and Patrick Renna; Directed by: Peter Filardi and is being produced by Live One Productions Inc.
'Strike' has been released to theaters in Canada and only a few theaters in the U.S.a. have it. From what I've come to understand it's only been released to the larger American cities. I don't know if all of us stuck in Small Town USA will ever be able to catch it at our theaters or not. I certainly hope so!
Another Day in Paradise premiered
at The Venice Film Festival last week and will make it's Canadian
premiere at The Toronto
International Film Festival tomorrow. The film was picked up by
Tri Mark Pictures and probably won't be released until early
1999.
Thank you Robin Dashnay for this information on ADIP!
Go HERE to see a pix from ADIP ~ Vinnie is the one sitting on the far right.
10/15 - It's been awhile since I've updated, huh? Ok, here it goes...
'Strike' was released to theaters in Canada about 2 months ago. Some theaters in large U.S. cities also carried it, but almost all theaters in the U.S. never showed it. I've been trying to find out from TPTB (the powers that be) if it is ever going to be released on a larger scale in the U.S., but they keep giving me the run-around. To be honest though, it's been such a long time now since it first got released I doubt it will ever make it to any more theaters in America. As for it being shown in other countries... your guess is as good as mine. I'm sorry guys! i guess we will all have to wait until it comes to video! Well, at least those that were not lucky enough to see it in the theater.
'Ricky 6' is still filming in Canada, I haven't heard anything more about it. But I can tell you... the book that the movie is based on is a true story and the book is going out of print as we speak! So if you want a copy of "Say You Love Satan" by David St. Clair you should go to your local book store to special order a copy ASAP! Maybe you'll get lucky and they can secure a copy for you before it stops printing. As for looking in libraries... it's almost impossible to find, you will have to request an 'inter-library-loan' and even then they may not be able to find you a copy. It seems it's very popular to steal a book with 'satan' in the title, 4 librarians at 4 different libraries told me the same thing... 'It's been stolen.'
For anyone who didn't know ~ 'Heaven Sent' has been on HBO (an American cable channel) a few times in the last month. I was finally able to watch the infamous movie!!! Yeah! David was kind enough to make a copy for me! Thank you so very much David! The movie is about a juvenile delinquent named Eddie (Vincent Kartheiser). He is peer pressured (by a guy named Vinnie!!!) into stealing a munchie from a convenience store. When he is almost caught he rollerblades out of the store and is hit by a car. He dies in the hospital and meets an angel named Howard who takes him to Heaven. But it soon comes to light that the angel has made a mistake and must take him back to earth. Eddie then wakes up in the hospital. Because of his tendency toward crime he is assigned a parole officer. When Eddie meets his new parole office he is shocked to see it is actually Howard the angel! Howard had 3 days to teach Eddie how to be a better person. Toward the end Eddie risks his life to do good and is rewarded for his efforts.... It's a really good movie and I enjoyed it very much!
'Another Day In Paradise' premiered at The Toronto Film Festival on the 15th of September. It was picked up by Tri Mark Pictures and probably won't be released to theaters until December 98' or January 99'.

Here is another:
Yahoo! News - Entertainment Headlines
Photographer-turned-filmmaker Larry Clark's seminal photo essay on Midwestern drug and street subculture of the 1960s and early '70s, ``Tulsa,'' was an acknowledged influence for such films as ``Taxi Driver'' and ``Drugstore Cowboy.'' The director now reclaims the inspiration in his second d feature, ``Another Day in Paradise,'' which resembles ``Drugstore Cowboy'' in its human take on a surrogate family glued together by drugs and crime. More conventional and arguably more satisfying than Clark's provocative debut, ``Kids,'' this imperfect but compelling outlaw drama may be too raw and unflinching to make a wide splash, but should find an audience ready to respond to its gritty aesthetic. In launching this seemingly downbeat but surprisingly warm slice of life on the edge, U.S. distributor T rimark's major asset is an emotionally engaging performance full of heart from Melanie Griffith in an uncharacteristic, deglamorized role. The film also features a significant discovery in Vincent Kartheiser, seen previously only in children's films (``An Indian in the Cupboard,'' ``Alaska''). Clark has said his aim here was to take a Hollywood genre and make it real. He largely achieves this by refusing to cut away or sensationalize the harsh reality being portrayed. Where the film does stumble marginally is in some of its climactic violence, which could have been better handled, but its finely pitched tone and generous, nonjudgmental treatment of characters ultimately make it work. More so than ``Kids,'' which depicted doomed New York City teenagers and wa s shaped as much by Harmony Korine's screenplay as by Clark, this more traditional narrative feature seems to spring directly from Clark's Midwestern background and his acknowledged experience of renegade life. The arresting opening has teenage junkie Bobbie (Kartheiser) breaking into a community college to empty its vending machines of cash and being pulped by a security guard, whom he eventually subdues with a knife*it's not a knife, it's a screw driver~Jean*. Staggering home to the slummy apartment he shares with his girlfriend, Rosie (Natasha Gr egson Warner), and friend Danny (Branden Williams), he shoots some heroin to dull the pain, and his injuries are treated by Danny's slick, drug-dealing uncle*Mel is not a dealer*, Mel (James Woods). After nursing him back to health, Mel recruits Bobbie to help steal a major haul of speed from an out-of-town doctor's clinic. Bobbie and Rosie hit the road with Mel and his tough but maternal sidekick, Sid (Griffith), who broaden the waifs' horizons, giving them their first taste of good living. The robbery comes off smoothly, but the subsequent resale of the drugs to some hotheaded rednecks goes awry, forcing Sid to step in with a shotgun. With both Mel and Bobbie seriously wounded, they head to the secluded HQ of evangelical gun merchant the Reverend (James Otis, somewhat over the top) for treatment. The close call changes things for Bobbie, and, after losing the baby she was carrying, Rosie succumbs to depression, becoming more reckless in her drug use. When Mel recovers sufficiently to start planning another scam, the family unit already has begun to come undone. Set in unidentified Midwestern towns and in an unspecified period that appears to be the 1970s, the film builds an atmosphere of quiet desperation and dread that contrasts interestingly with its affecting portrait of perhaps the ultimate screwed-up American family. A good part of the credit for how effectively the group's instant bonds are established goes to Griffith. The actress may look a little strappingly healthy to be a heroin addict, but she brings naturalness and a melancholy sweetness to the role of the aging wild child whose unfulfilled desire for children finds an outlet in the two strays brought along by her charismatic lover. The character's protective instincts, even at the cost of her relationship with Mel, make for a poignant conclusion. Woods gives Mel plenty of nervous energy and dangerous dynamism, but the actor -- who also produced -- appears to have been given free rein a little too often, resulting in a few too many showy, explosive moments that jar with the other actors' more restrained honesty. Gregson Wagner registers sympathetically in the most tragic role, while Kartheiser proves a magnetic presence, giving Bobbie a skanky, heroin-chic sexiness. He easily conveys the inarticulate yearning the kid feels for the kind of family warmth and support he has never had. The grainy textures of cinematographer Eric Edwards' often crude images and his limber, edgy camerawork are a snug fit for the material. Also enhancing the mood is the ample use of bluesy soul songs by artists such as Otis Redding, Bobby Womack, Allen Toussaint and Clarence Carter, who appears in the film as a nightclub singer.
And this review was written by: Robin Dashnay. Thank you very much Robin!
Well, as a fan of the book I will
have to tell you
that changes have been made, but in a way that I found it even
more
satisfying. Rosie's character was not as prominent, while they
beefed
up Melanie Griffith's role as Sid. Ok, I know you are dying to
here
about Vincent Kartheiser. He was very good. In fact, I think this
is
going to be the beginning of a great career for him. There are
several
scenes in the film that just rips your heart out and that is just
the
expression on his face. I don't think they could have cast anyone
better for Bobbie, and hope to see him a lot in the future.
Melanie
Griffith was excellent. Not only was she very dramatic and
emotional,
but very comedic as well. The audience actually applauded some of
her
one liners. I think this is going to put her on the comeback
trail and
she definitely deserves an Oscar Nomination for the film. James
Woods
is brilliant as always......although I pictured someone larger
for the
role of Mel, he did the job exceptionally. He was funny, heart
breaking
and terrifying all at the same time. Natasha Gregson Wagner was
also
very good, although I wish they would have developed her
character more
like it was in the book, but if you did not read the book you
aren't
missing anything. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Jewel, the eccentric
gay
drug dealer friend of Mel and is very good.....actually
shockingly good,
although he is only in the film all of 10 or 15 minutes and is
not
billed in the credits so that is why some think that he is not in
the
film. The film is not for everyone. It is very rough through its
use
of language and violence, but if you are open minded and have a
strong
stomach, this film will be very enjoyable. In fact as a major fan
of
Pulp Fiction, I found this film to be much more satisfying, and
if you
read the book, I think that you are really going to like the way
the
film ends. All and all, the film is very well done and very
darkly
humorous and I cannot wait to see it again. Trimark will probably
open
it in early 1999, but I am hoping they sneak it in, late 1998 so
it gets
some Oscar recognition.
I've been lucky enough to acquire a copy of 'Another Day In Paradise' from someone who (I'm sorry!) will have to remain nameless ;O) But, do ya know what that means??? I will soon have my other Vinnie site up and running (it will be called Vinnie Nation) and I will put about 100 vid caps up for all of you to feast on! And I will also add some .WAV files so you can hear some of the dialog in the movie. I am trying to get all of this done as SOON as possible!
Well, that's all the news for now! Check back often and hopefully I'll have more info on 'Ricky 6' and a release date for 'ADIP'!
11/11 - Wow! It's been awhile again, huh? A little info on me... I was able to fix my computer so now I'm able to be back online! I'm sorry for not updating this page in so long, I will try to keep it updated often from now on. Onward to the news :
Here is a link to read about 'ADIP', it's mostly about Melanie Griffith
http://www.bowesnet.com/encore/Z01_Sept25people1.html
Here is another write-up on 'ADIP'
http://bbs.iguide.com/movies/allmovies/3576/2/
Here is a REAL AUDIO file of Natasha Gregson Wagner talking about Rosie's sexuality in 'ADIP'... She says they keep their clothes on, I disagree, the only thing in the scene that either of them is wearing, is a little tank top that she has on and even then you can clearly see what's underneth. Vinnie isn't wearing anything.
If any of you have been looking for 'Say You Love Satan', the book that Vinnie's new movie, 'Ricky 6' is based on, then you've probably found out it is no longer in print. You can, however, request an inter-library loan, wait a few weeks and they will call you when it comes in. I did this and so far I've read almost the entire book. It is a true story about a teenager named Ricky Kasso. Here is the summery the book gives :
Ricky Kasso, Jimmy Troiano, and Gary Lauwers were three kids from good homes. But by the time they hit high school they were bad boys...cutting class, smoking marijuana, taking LSD and angel dust. Everyone knew they were headed for trouble. But no one guessed that they were also "getting into Satan"...until one dark night in the chic town of Northport, Satan said to kill...
Best selling author and veteran journalist David St. Clair, an expert in the occult, spent months gathering evidence and obtaining exclusive interviews with the sole survivor. He creates a searing portrait of a town that closed its eyes to a deadly problem...a murder that the town's teens made their unspoken secret...and three boys touched by evil, violence, and death.
Check back later and I'll have more info on the book!
Ok, here is some in-depth Vinnie news!
He was shooting 'Ricky 6' in Canada, but I have recently found out the movie was completed in September. He is now in Europe promoting 'Another Day In Paradise'. He will probably be finished before Thanksgiving so he can spend some time with his family.
Vinnie has said that when he graduates high school he would be attending UCLA. Since he has already graduated, everyone (including myself) assumed he is attending UCLA. But at the moment he isn't going to college... When he returns from Europe he will be living with his brother in Minnesota. His brother is going to a college near their parents home, so, he and Vinnie will be sharing an apartment near Nathan's school.
That's all I've got for now! I'll try to update again soon! Have a great Thanksgiving!
11/25 - Release date for 'Another Day In Paradise' is set for December 30th 1998, it will be a limited release (just like 'Strike') only showing in major cities like Los Angles & New York City. But even with a limited release it will be up for an Oscar nomination! It will be in wider showing on January 22nd 1999, hopefully everyone will be able to see it and it won't end-up like 'Strike'. But please keep in mind it's got an 'R' rating.
Melanie Griffith was on David Letterman a few weeks ago talking about her new movie 'Celebrity' and David mentioned 'Another Day In Paradise', he said he had watched it and thought it was really gritty, but he liked it very much.
Entertainment Weekly has briefly mentioned ADIP, so have a few web sites (I will list them for you later when I get them all), also Entertainment Tonight has been talking about it. I will have a message from Robin on here soon, she will be telling you about how we all can help get ADIP more attention and maybe get it released on a wider scale.
Speaking of Robin, I would like to thank her for much of the above information! Thank you Robin!
'Ricky 6' may be getting a name change, nothing final yet, but I've heard that the powers that be may be changing the name of the movie. I'll keep you informed. I was wondering... has anyone out there read the book the movie is based on (Say You Love Satan)? If you have please email me, I'd love to hear what you thought of it. I just finished reading it, it's not exactly what everyone has been thinking... Here's a run-down of the book. (FYI ~ I think Vinnie will be playing Ricky)
On March 29th 1967 Ricky Kasso, Jr. was born in the village of Northport, Long Island (NY). When he was just 10 years old he tried marijuana, by the time he was in 7th grade he smoked it regularly, at 13 he was selling it as well as using it. When Ricky was in 8th grade he met a ninth grader named Jimmy Troiano, they became very close friends, neither boys had many. Jimmy was described as being 'strange' and Ricky was fascinated by him. Both boys came from relatively normal boring homes, although Jimmy was adopted he was treated very well by his 'parents'.
In the summer of 1981 at the age of 14 Ricky decided to check out the local library where he noticed a book called "A History Of Satanism", it seemed to jump out at him... He was hooked.
From this point on, his drug use escalated and he got more and more into Satanism. He ends up leaving his parents home and lives on the streets where he sells drugs, does drugs and gives drugs out to his friends.
This is just a basic description I wrote of the beginning of the book. If you want to know more about it go to your local library and request an inter-library loan. It will take a few weeks for your library to get the book in, they will call you when they have it. It's written by David St. Clair. By the way, it's not all court room drama like everyone first thought, only about the last 1/4 of the book is about the trial. The rest of the book is about everything that lead up to the actual murder. The movie, however, might be different, it might be more court scenes than anything else.
Happy Thanksgiving!
12/02 - I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I don't have a lot of news right now, but I do have the movie poster for 'Another Day In Paradise' to show you!
Thank you Robin for telling me where to find it! By the way this is the link to where I got it :
When you visit Trimark you can go to the TALK section and post a message that will be read and answered by Trimark Pictures. when you post be sure to check your spelling and grammar and ask them to promote the movie more, release it to more cities and push it for the Oscars.
That's it for now! Have a great Christmas!
12/10 - Well, the time has come for the unveiling of Vinnie Nation! Just follow the link and you will see the new Vinnie site I have been working on for so long! I hope all of you enjoy it! There are a lot of things I still need to add, but that will come in January.
Here is a pix of Vinnie from
'Strike'. Thank you Dana for sending it to me!
