My Favorite Valentine

This page is dedicated to my wonderful husband who means the world to me. We've only been married less than a year, but we've been through so much together. Please excuse my writing, a writer I'm not. :))

Well, it all started about 3 years ago. We were both members of America Online at the time. He was from Texas and I was from Kentucky. We didn't even know each other. I was browsing around one of those chatrooms, 30 something room I think, and all of a sudden I got one of those Instant Messages from someone that said "Will you be my girlfriend?" Well, I figured it was some kind of kid just playing games, like they usually do in those chat rooms. I went along with it and said "Why sure..."

We just kept Instant Messaging each other for the longest time and so we decided that we wanted to find out more about each other. So we chatted and chatted...and believe it or not...we had A LOT in common. He asked me for my phone number and, to his surprise, I gave it to him. He called me a few minutes later and we talked for hours!!!!! This kept going for about three months. We would take turns calling each other, since it was long distance. Than finally he decided that he wanted to meet me in person....WOW!!...I was scared to death! But I really wanted to meet him too. I mean, after 3 months of phone calls, I was starting to have some sort of feelings for this "cyber" boyfriend.

So, in September of 1995 we met in person much to my family's "fear". I guess they were afraid that he would be some sort of escaped convict or something. Thank God they were wrong! This guy that didn't know me from adam, except on the computer and phone, drove over 800 miles to see ME on his vacation. There was instant attraction, I could tell. :) We spent a whole week together just talking and touring my hometown (I wanted to show him the hot spots here-hehehe). Once his vacation was over and it was time for him to go back to Texas I was so sad. :( We had really clicked and I didn't want him to leave. But he told me before he left that he wanted to move down here with me. :) That made me really happy!! But, at the same time, I was a little cautious. I mean, I have been hurt before and I was afraid that he would drive back to Texas and that would be the last that I would hear from him. Oh boy was I wrong!! A month later he had packed his bags and was with me in little ole Kentucky. Yep he was! What a whirlwind romance huh? hehe

On June 21st, 1996, he asked me to be his wife. I said "YES YES"!! I felt like the luckiest woman around. He's everything that I could ever have wanted for a husband, and more... We were married on March 29th, 1997 in Pigeon Forge, TN. We got married in a beautiful chapel and had one of them cabins in the mountains reserved. Oh that cabin was beautiful!!! My dad, grandmother and grandfather were there. My dad gave me away, grandmother was my Matron of Honor and grandfather was the Best Man. It was sooooo romantic.

But, ya know the problem with getting married later in life (we were 33 yrs. old) is that you have different problems than if ya get married in your teens or twenties. Don't get me wrong, our marriage is WONDERFUL, but we've had problems that most newlyweds don't or shouldn't have to have. For instance, a couple of months after we were married, he lost his job. The day after that, I had a wreck and almost totalled my "new" car. He was without a job for almost 2 months. To top all that off, about 5 months ago I found out that my dad has kidney cancer and it's spread all over his body. He passed away on April 13, 1998 :(( I couldn't believe that. I mean, less than a year ago he was walking me down the aisle . Well, through all of this, our marriage has survived and we are as close as ever.
