Words For The Wise

Fall '96 Volume 2.2

Back To School!

It was a very interesting summer yes? June and July called for careful evaluation and response as many people were confronted with streesful difficulties. All this seemed to lift July 2 or 3rd giving rise to a respite. Now you may find yourself read, with the school years, to get back down to work and implement some of the ideas and plans you have had to “jump-start” things. Some people think that they have “been lazy” over the last few months but I remind you we all need a break from the grind. You may also be aware of the temptation to repeat a past pattern but also the wisdom that allows you to see the pattern and make another choice. You may also find that at this time long standing plans - such as working out or dieting, or going back to school may in fact seem easier to implement and stay with. Somewhere during the summer there was an opportunity to take responsibility for the circumstances. One you do that you feel a sense of rebirth and renewal; and believe it or not a desire to get organized. I don't know that this necessarily happens ever fall but I don know its easier to buy the :school” supplies you need to get organized. And, deep in our psychology after years of returning to school in September we unconsciously prepare ourselves to enter a learning period. We are attentive, ready to learn and even feel “smarter”.

A BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL If you feel you would like some objective perspective by having a reading you can do it at a discount from Sept. 15-October 15. Managing Intention

”If you build it they will come!’ “See it, believe it, create it”. Visualization, positive thinking, prayer, scripting.- you name it, there are all sorts of tools for creating the life you want- once you have determined what that is. Staying the course however presents its challenges. Sometimes the road to bounty is easy, sometimes its lined with lessons that are less than easy but it’s always a fruitful journey.

To me, managing your intention means being aware of where your centered self is relative to what you are trying to create, accomplish or achieve in the world. I will use gardening as it is a natural example. You plant a seed. You do what you can to nurture the seed. You watch how patient or impatient you are with the growth process and watch your reaction. Intuitively you know what the seed needs to grow- air, water, light and intention. The intention that put that seed in the ground is the intention that nurtures it. You may have adjust your nurturing according to the changes in the weather but basically you must be flexible in your response during the growing season, and even more flexible sometimes in the harvest.

How do I apply this practically. Well, say I am working on something that means a lot to me. In some ways I fear my very identity is wrapped up in its success or failure. The more attached my identity is to the outcome the less flexibility and objectivity I have. Inherent in my identifying my worth and value with what I am doing is the possibility that I may become consumed by it, even becoming it. Then, “it” has me rather than me having it and suddenly that great idea, that great moment of inspiration, that great dream is running my life and I am running behind it fearfully trying to keep up wondering if it will ever happen. I have discovered that only I can know when the cycle of losing myself to the project at hand begins to happen. There are certain cues. 1. There seem to be people holding up my efforts. 2. I think about the “how to” constantly and worry about the results. 3. There’s not a lot of space for caring, nurturing or love in my life. 4. I start to notice the people around me not wanting to talk about it! So, before those warning signs bang me over the head, I now pay attention. When I feel the level of anxiety rise slightly I breathe, I ask myself what I am afraid of and I do my best to let go and return to the center of myself. Sometimes this can be done in a short few minutes, sometimes a day, sometimes a week. The time it takes seems to be in direct proportion how long the stress has been at work. I think this is what is mean by that “Let Go Let God” bumper sticker and the serenity prayer. You do the best you can do and you let go. Getting to know how you react to certain things in your life enables you to actually choose to respond rather than react. It’s a simple shift but you have to practice it! When you have made the shift you can also go into that still and silent place of knowing. In that place your intuition will speak and begin to lead you through the circumstances. And it might even put you back in touch with that voice that urged you to start down the road in the first place. That voice that KNEW it was right for you.

Really WIRED!

I feel like a poster child for ATT&T but I am making staying in touch a lot easier. Below are a few ways to stay in touch, schedule sessions, ask a quick question vial e-mail and set up phone readings. E-MAIL peaceful@ix.netcom.com is my main e-mail address. A quick question asked by e-mail gets a quick response. Of course I can’t guarantee foolproof typing. It was tough to arrive at a rate for this service since sometimes it is not about the question at all. But for $15 I’ll do my best to give you an objective prospective and hopefully provide some insight. So far the clients that have tried it out like it but remember the questions should be relatively simple. You KNOW how long winded I can be.

800 Paging and Messaging When I am in New York or Los Angeles you can reach me by this paging and voice messaging system. The “beeper” sends a signal in NY and LA. It will always take messages though no matter where I am and I do check daily or within 48 hours. It is always best to leave a message rather than punching in your phone number. You can use this number to schedule or cancel appointments as well. 1-800-946-7069

500 Follow-Me Service This could most likely be the only number you’ll ever need because it rings in any location I happen to be in through the wonders of ATT&T technology. Of course, you may never know where you are calling and it does reach all over the world so you will be billed for a long distance call. But, it is a sure way to find me. When I am at home in LA it rings there. If for some reason I am not reachable it will bounce you back to the voice-mail system on my home phone. The number is 1-500-447-3877. As of this time it is not always accessible from all phones. If this is the case dial an AT&T operator and tell he or she you are dialing a True 500 number.
