ALL SPECIES WELCOME HERE

An ordinary night, it was,
And, while I slept so soundly,
They had come. They did their ting,
And did it all around me.

When I awoke, confused, it's true,
And thinking, "Burglars here!"
I tried to reach out for the phone,
Which, always, I kept near.

I found I couldn't move my hand
For I was paralyzed!
Oh! Maybe I was dreaming
, My thoughts not organized!

I glanced at things around the room,
Each item in its place,
Nothing was distorted,
Oh! how my thoughts did race!

And then I saw the shadows,
Moving on the wall!
Someone really was out there,
And almost in the hall!

I tried to move but still could not,
But much to my surprise
I found that I was not afraid
As they danced before my eyes!

How long I watched, I don't recall,
But soon, the shadows gone,
I found that I could move again.
The phone I pounced upon!

I picked it up, got out of bed,
And tiptoed down the hall.
I had to see if they were there,
Those shadows on the wall!

Not in the kitchen, nor the room
Where all our pets were housed.
Not the living room, for sure,
Now I was fully roused!

All the doors were firmly locked,
With nothing out of place!
The windows, too, were quite secure!
Oh, this was quite a case!

Ready to give up the search,
Abruptly I did see
Our little stuffed green Alien
Not where it used to be!

Where once it had been sitting
On the sofa, looking cute,
Now it lay haphazardly,
Much like a kicked-off boot!

I chuckled as I saw it,
And knew, then, what transpired:
Real Aliens had visited,
Their joke was quite inspired!

I guess they felt quite welcome!
And why would they know fear?
They must have seen our doormat:
"All species Welcome Here!"
