day 2, yet again i underestimated how far i could drive. despite wyoming and south dakota's penchant for randomly closing one lane of route 90 for a mile long stretch in the middle of no where without actually working on it every 60 miles or so i made it to uh... missoula, MO. took me a second to remember where the hell i am right now. another obstacle is the fact that i've never driven in the mountains before and hadn't realized how little my car likes driving uphill. fortunately i made it through montana but tomorrow's trip through idaho and washington state should prove to be interesting.

i don't claim to be great with digital cameras but i just thought this looked neat, leaving sioux falls, SD at sunrise

how can you pass up what looks like a giant rusting bull's head in the middle of a corn field? saw this sign after driving a couple of miles into a dirt road. it listed admission and "park rules" unfortunately the gate was closed and i didn't want to walk out there for fear of being shot by a disgruntled farmer

at the entrance to the "park"

i think that's a wee little red T-rex out there..

south dakota was weird.. you drive through miles and miles of nothing just prarie not even really any land elevation then suddenly you drive over a hill and you're in the mountains or something

the corn palace is under construction!

why the hell does it look like the kremlin?!

yes sir those pictures are made from corn cobs

so i finally make it to missoula, MO.. motel 6 has no vacancies so i check out the "c'mon inn" because hey it's next to the cracker barrel but they want $100 bucks a night, same goes for best western, i'm getting delerious again and desperate so i check out the microtel connected to the casino and begrudgingly fork over $65. turns out they only had a handicap room left, benefits being it's freaking huge.

i could sleep 5 in this bathroom

there's even a "scenic view" if you don't look down and see the chainlink fence and don't look right and see the highway

ok that's all for today, my mappy thingie claims it's only 8.17 hours to my brother's house tomorrow so i can sleep in past 5! :P
