Gish Talks X-FILES
Actress gives her take on the what's up with the series.
Annabeth Gish has been talking, briefly, about her new regular role of FBI special agent Monica Reyes on the coming ninth season of THE X-FILES.
While talking to the New York Daily News, Gish spoke of her charcater on the series, saying, "She's a little hipper, a little edgier than the normal FBI agent. She's a believer like Mulder, not a skeptic."
As for the actress herself, she says, "I'm very interested in mysticism and metaphysics."
Regarding her newfound status on the series, Gish admits, "I'm a bit in shock." She's also said to be thrilled to be a part of it.
And being a part of the series right now is alos participating in its latest phase. In particular, Gish notes her co-star, Robert Patrick in reference to the program's evolution, saying, "I think it's a different phase, a new evolution mark for the show. He completely infused the show, gave it a new burst of energy,"

This is an interview with Robert Patrick
**Are you similar to your character?** He is much more of an amiable individual than I am. He's a good guy, with a lot of virtues and a code he lives by. It's something I'm trying to live up to in my own private life, but it's hard to do.
**Can you spill some secrets about the ninth season?** I'm going to be the babysitter! I'm the nanny for Scully's baby. You'll see more of what went on in Doggett's past. Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) and I are going to go out and do a lot of the case solving.
**Is Doggett going to get lucky next season?** I hope he does. I honestly believe Doggett loves Scully but he doesn't want to impose himself on her. But I also think he had something going on with Reyes. I'd like to see it where Doggett's got stuff going on with everybody! [He laughs.]
**Who did you want to be when you were growing up?** Captain Kirk because he was a leader and everyone looked up to him. But it wasn't all about science fiction. I was Daniel Boone running around the woods in Georgia, too.
**What superpower would you like to have?** Maybe I could stop time and go backward to fix things. Fix this recent presidential election.
**What do you think your costars will think of you being selected a sexy man of sci-fi?** I think they're going to laugh their asses off.

Question:Chris, your shows are fantastic! "Millennium" was truly the best show on television. Any chance that it (or any of your other wonderful shows) will be released of video or DVD? ~Laura E. Jordan
Chris Carter: They're talking about Millennium on DVD. Beyond that I wouldn't think there is much hope for Harsh Realm, or Lone Gunman. But, I think there are a lot of people asking for the Millennium DVD, so I think that will happen.
(Note from Rachael: I'd buy it the first day it came out! Millennium was the best show I've ever seen!)

I've been at work now for a couple of days and it already feels like
a different environment. There are hordes of new people that I'm starting to feel like an old dinosaur. Working at Ten Thirteen has been a big break for me, I had a blast working on another film over most of the summer (rhymes with Jatrix), but, "The X-Files" has always been my #1 project. I am sad to say that, ever since I was assigned to the 2nd Unit of production, I haven't seen hide nor hair of Chris Carter. But, I have a little quick insider info. -Expect the season opener to have alot of action, the pyro-FX guys have been all over the set riggin' things from cars to houses -I seriously doubt if Duchovny will cameo anytime soon, unless the secret goes all the way to the top (which it might) -Expect some really great chase scenes, "Bounty-Hunter Style!" Oh, before I forget, there's one more thing I gotta' say without making it too obvious. Hmmmm.
Can you say.................."Blackwood 2"?

Sadly, the news is slowing down, and I'm going to be going to college soon so in less than a month there is no longer going to be an update every eay. I haven't decided yet, but it's either going to be a scheduled weekly update (and I'm positive I can get to a computer once a week because there's a computer lab right across the street from my dorm) or it's going to be a "whenever I'm at the computer" update. In a scheduled update people would know that every week on insert day of the the week day there would be good quality new news and no dumb repeats that I have now. But with a "whenever I'm at the computer" update it would be more frequent. I'd like your input. Please either e-mail me or sign my guest book. Thanks, I'd really like to know what you think.

David Duchovny's Bad Bathroom Behavior
David Duchovny and Shaquille O'Neal have been nailed by American comedian Garry Shandling - for their bad bathroom decorum. Shandling has shared urinal facilities with both stars, and admits his toilet experiences with them have been far from pleasurable. He explains, "Duchovny was waiting behind me at the urinal with his pants already down - a big non-no, even in Hollywood. And at Staples Center, 7-foot-1 O'Neal was next to me at the urinal and missed everything. But he's very strong in close."

The ex-Filer on parenthood, partners in crime and pockets full of potatoes and peas
David Duchovny gets assaulted by weird extraterrestrials and double-crossed by the government, and it's not just another day in the life of Agent Fox Mulder. While he gained world fame tracking aliens on The X-Files, he's now playing them for laughs in Evolution, the new sci-fi comedy from Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman.
Though he recently made his final exit from the series, Duchovny's sexy FBI agent will live on in reruns and the X-Files movie. Offscreen, everyone knows Duchovny is crazy about his wife, actress Téa Leoni. She's about to be seen in her own summer bid to break the box office, Jurassic Park III. It's Téa and their two-year-old daughter, Madelaine, who have him longing to spend more time at home.

MOST INFLUENTIAL CULT SERIES
The science fiction series ``Dr. Who'' has topped a list as the most influential television cult program of all time.
The list of cult programs was complied by British media historian Jeff Evans for a new reference book, ``The Penguin Television Companion.''
Second on the list was ``Fawlty Towers,'' starring John Cleese, with ``Star Trek'' landing in third place. Other top shows included ``Monty Python's Flying Circus'' at No. 4, ``The Prisoner'' at five and ``The X-Files'' in sixth place.
``It is hard to define a cult but it is more than just getting good viewing figures,'' says Evans. ``They set fads and fashions, generate merchandise, inspire fan clubs and conventions or pervade the national consciousness

The Bureau's Got a New A.D.
Cary Elwes has been cast as the recurring character of FBI Assistant Director Brad Follmer, an ex-boyfriend of Monica Reyes and an equal in rank to Skinner. A.D. Follmer will be introduced in the Season Nine premiere, "Nothing Important Happened Today," which airs on Nov. 4th. It was written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, and directed by Kim Manners.
"It's not just adding a terrific actor, it's adding somebody of a certain stature to the show," Carter said of Elwes. The producers' goal was to cast someone very different from Doggett. "(Follmer) is a guy who is a little more buttoned up, a little more polished; he represents a different kind of FBI," Carter said.
Elwes was offered the part after he read with Annabeth Gish on Wednesday night. "All of us saw at the same time how he would be the best choice for the dynamic we were trying to create; we liked the energy between the two of them," Carter said.
The actor is known for his wide-ranging work in films, including 1987's The Princess Bride, 1990's Days of Thunder, 1993's Robin Hood: Men in Tights and, more recently, 1999's The Cradle Will Rock and last year's Shadow of the Vampire. He also appeared in the 1998 HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.

Another Addition To X-FILES Cast
Cary Elwes signs on for recurring role on series.
Cary Elwes (THE PRINCESS BRIDE, TWISTER, SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE) is the latest addition to the cast of THE X-FILES as the program roles into its ninth season. Elwes is set to play the role of FBI assistant director Brad Follmer, who also happens to be the ex-boyfriend of agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish). The character will be recurring on the series.
While talking to the Hollywood Reporter, series creator Chris Carter revealed that on Wednesday, Elwes did a reading with Gish for the part. Carter says, "All of us saw at the same time how he would be the best choice for the dynamic we were trying to create; we liked the energy between the two of them."
Regarding the character, Carter says, "(Follmer) is a guy who is a little more buttoned up, a little more polished; he represents a different kind of FBI [than agent Doggett]."
Elwes will first appear on the season nine opening episode.
Previously, it had been reported that XENA star Lucy Lawless had also signed on to the program at least for the season's first two episodes. Lawless may also be returning for later episodes.

I'm back from Washington DC! I had a good time and now there is news again on the page! First, the birthdays that I missed!
August 9: Happy 33rd birthday to Gillian Anderson! Our Goddess! I don't need to explain who she is! If you don't know you should be ashamed of yourself! We love you Gillian!!
Happy 17th birthday to Vanessa Morley! She played all the young Samanthas we've seen up to Closure, that wasn't a good Samantha but this is the one we've learned to know and love!
August 7: Happy 41st birthday to David Duchovny! We love you David!
Happy 46th birthday to Wayne Knight! He's never been in The X-Files but he did play Dennis Nedry in the original Jurassic Park.
August 6th: Happy 31st birthday to M. Night Shyamalan. I haven't seen his movies because he often has Bruce Willis in them, but I heard they were good and that he is a great director, so happy birthday!

Xena Guests On X-Files
Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless has signed on to another "X" show--The X-Files, on which the New Zealand actress will appear in a multiple-episode story arc, Variety reported. Lawless is set to appear on the first two episodes of the show's upcoming fall season, with a chance she could do more, the trade paper reported.
Details regarding the Lawless character are secret, the trade paper reported. "We're thrilled to have an opportunity to work with Lucy, whose work we've admired for a long time," X-Files executive producer Frank Spotnitz told Variety. Is New X-Files Agent Gay?
Is The X-Files' new FBI Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) more than just a pal of Gillian Anderson's Scully? Executive producer John Shiban told TV Guide Online that the writers briefly considered making Reyes' character a lesbian at one point.
"We talked about it," Shiban told the site. "But we [ultimately decided] that it's the kind of baggage that we didn't want to deal with with this kind of character right now. We had other ideas that we were more excited about."
Though the series implied that Reyes once had a romantic entanglement with Scully's partner, John Doggett (Robert Patrick), the series' season finale had Reyes telling Scully she looked "amazingly beautiful," TV Guide reported. Shiban said he sees how viwers may have misunderstood the remark. "I can see where they got that idea" that Reyes had switched teams, he said. Reyes "does have an affection for Scully that is deep and real, but our intention was that it is non-sexual." But, he added, "On The X-Files, anything can happen, so I don't want to discount anything. Life is complicated."

In the Lake
Sharon Stone has apparently signed on to star alongside David Duchovny & Ray Liotta in this erotic thriller from Director Jon Amiel according to Cinemovies.Fr.
(Note from Rachael: Cinemovies.Fr is in French... but I did take 5 years of French in middle school and high school so here goes! This is the best translation I can do.)
Instead of "Basic Instict 2" she plays in another erotic thriller.
Though the project of a "Basic Instict 2"is totally abandoned, Sharon Stone (does it again) sorry, I'm not sure if thats what it means for an erotic thrill in which she will have a partner, David Duchovny.
The actress, 43 years old, who goes to court to get 15 million dollars for "Basic Instict 2" (not bad for any day!), will play the disloyal wife of David Duchovny in "In the Lake."
It's the actor Ray Liotta who plays the role of her lover, in the film which is being directed by Jon Amiel.

Road trip inspires 'X-Files' location manager
Fox's location-intensive television series "The X-Files" finally got smart. After seven years of driving its location staff into overtime hell in the United States and Canada, "X-Files" threw location manager Ilt Jones a bone: a two-week scouting roadshow, during hiatus, to find all the weird locations he could for the upcoming season. If successful, the writers would find inspiration from his scouting trips, actually writing those locations into the season -- an effort that would save the production staff time, money and, most importantly, their sanity. So did these tours of Southern California work? The answer is yes. In fact, Jones recently returned from his second scouting roadshow, hoping to inspire the creative team with strange mansions, closed-down factories and water filtration plants as sites for potential story lines for the ninth season, which premieres Nov. 4.
"This is a very unusual thing to do," said Jones, a veteran location manager. "It has really recharged my batteries. The scale and nature of the stories places a huge importance on locations. The prep work can be very intense. This is my chance to see things in advance and stay that much further ahead." The production crew on "X-Files" often compares the 20-episode season with working on 20 features in one year -- a hectic schedule from July to May. Jones was able to build up his library significantly during his first scouting trip, enabling the show to use about 20-30 locations from his trip throughout the season. This significantly eased the pressure to put together entire locations in aneight-day period.
His favorite example is the use of an oil rig off the coast of Santa Barbara that served as the Galpex Petroleum Orpheus oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico shot for "Vienen." Once the writers confirmed with Jones and production designer Corey Kaplan that the location was indeed being used, the team had about six weeks to put the shoot together -- a far cry from the two weeks the production staff usually receives for a location shoot. Kaplan spent almost as much time re-creating a control room, a mess hall and some operational sections of the oil platform onstage. "She either magnified or amended what was there to make itphotogenic,"
Jones said. "It all matched. It was great design on her part." The team also brought to life the closed down CENCO Refinery in Santa Fe Springs to complete the shoot. "This was a brilliant piece of synergy between all the departments," Kaplan said. "This way, we could quietly start preparing the episode and the location. We had the time to re-create it into the scope of the budget. If this was a rush job, it would have been much more expensive." While no figures have been given as to the amount of money they have saved the show, it's clear that all parties have benefited from Jones' trips. In fact, Kaplan and Jones wereeven able to visit Washington this break to get a firsthand look at the Hoover building and the Quantico, Va., FBI training academy.
While they claimed that the trip was to increase their personal knowledge of the area, which is often featured in the show, "X-Files" fans might want to expect a re-creation of the Quantico facility during the upcoming season. Other Southern California locations that might find their way into the season are a former Boeing/NASA facility in Downey that Jones called "militaristic," a weird brick mansion in South Pasadena and a gothic-looking water filtration plant in La Verne. No details have been revealed as to what will or will not be used, but with a plethora of potential new locations, the results should be interesting.

THE NAME GAME
It's always fun and informative to run into Tea Leoni and David Duchovny. A week after they goofed about their adventures in butt painting at the "Jurassic Park III" premiere, we encountered them again at a screening of Davis Guggenheim's PBS documentary "The First Year" [about first-year teachers]. Leoni informed us that she's considering changing her name to Tea Duchovny. She thought about hypenating, but Leoni-Duchovny is such a mouthful. Besides, she pointed out, "Leoni isn't even my real name." (She was born Elizabeth Tea Pantaleoni.) And since the birth of daugher Madeline West Duchovny two years ago, those Mama Leoni jokes have gotten old. "I think she should do it," Duchovny said. "It's the only way my name will ever be on an Oscar."

The New "X" In X-files: Xena
In an apparent effort to boost The X-Files' flagging ratings, executive producer Frank Spotnitz has signed Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless for a recurring role in the sci-fi series, the New York Post reported today. Spotnitz told the newspaper that Lawless had met with the show's creator/writer/producer, Chris Carter, a year ago. "Since that time," he said, "it's been something in the back of Chris' mind as to how we could use Lucy. ... And when we began mapping out the X-files' mythology, we found the perfect place for her." What that "perfect place" amounts to remains a big "X," however. Lawless is scheduled to appear in the first two episodes of the series next fall and is expected to appear in additional episodes throughout the season, the Post said.

Lucy Lawless/X-FILES Details
Producer talks about how XENA star hooked up with THE X-FILES.
In case you were wondering about how ex-XENA Lucy Lawless got hooked up to THE X-FILES, executive producer Frank Spotnitz has been explaining it all.
While talking to the New York Post, the producer explained, saying, "She and [Chris Carter] met in the past year, and she said she was a fan of the show...Since that time, it's been something in the back of Chris' mind as to how we could use Lucy, and when we began mapping out the X-FILES mythology, we found the perfect place for her."
Though he avoids being specific about what or who Lawless' character on the series will be, Spotnitz reveals what he can, saying, "In typical X-FILES fashion, she's going to be one of those characters where you're not sure whether she's good or bad. "She'll have a lot of levels to her."
Lawless will appear on the program's first two episodes of its ninth season. She may well be returning later in the season, too.
