Present Day & historic Liddesdale maps

Compiled By Sean J. Ruttledge August 1998

Above is a present day map of northern Britain with Hermitage castle highlighted, this castle is roughly the epicentre of Liddesdale

Below you will find a series of both ancient and modern maps mainly depicting Liddesdale, spanning across the English / Scots Border, what was known in Reiver days as The English & Scottish west Marches.

Above is an early map of Liddesdale dating from about AD 1590, right at the end of the "Reiving century".

The map above covers roughly the same area and dates from AD 1654.

The above depiction of the area is from the excellent Ordnance survey map entitled "In search of the Border Reivers" this is not only a map featuring over 800 reiver sites but a guide containing timelines and family names as well as much historical info.
