Another Bright Idea From The D-Man
Have you read in the Pravda or what ever passes for your local newspaper about Ford's plans to stuff an Advanced Restraint System in the next Taurus?
Supposed to have a gazzilion sensors (even one in the seat cushion... I don't think I like that "Better Idea"). The sensors detect the driver's shape as well as passenger's (if one is detected) and deploys the air bags accordingly. They also control the seat belt retactors. In a mild collision they tighten to keep the person in place. In a heavy collision they loosen a bit to keep from collapsing your chest. In a mega collision they send for a coroner... okay I made up that last one.
Sounds great, doesn't it? Especially since Ford promises not to hike up the price tag to cover the new stuff... Bwah Ha Ha!
All this fancy smancy stuff sounds great but some how it gives me the creeps. All those sensors measuring and weighing and probing you... EEK! Sure safety stuff can keep us from becoming human putty in our cars but there comes a point where we must accept the inherent risks of automobile travel.
I guess I'm getting old but I like my cars a little less intrusive. It's bad enough my old lady nags me at home, but having my car do it on the road as well?
Sheesh.
