Dunking a Disco - A Visit to Wonnangatta with a stop at "the Bus Stop"

Friends took their Discoveries to Wonnangatta Homestead and were kind enough to lend these pictures to me. Yes, I did tell them it was going on my home page.

All pictures scanned and then edited (Brightness/Size) using Photoshop 4.0 (Yes, I've upgraded recently!)

Thanks to Ross Boyd...for providing the pictures of someone else's Disco!

It doesn't look too bad with the vehicle stationary, but note where the high water mark is on the bonnet. With no snorkel, they were very lucky not to have filled the motor with water...it doesn't compress!

Getting the vehicle out was not too difficult, but cleaning out the mud and drying the carpets took time. The steering box also needed to be cleaned, emptied of mud, and refilled with oil. Steering is now very light, so perhaps there has always been some gunk in the steering box!

Note the care taken to get the snatch strap hooked up without getting wet! I don't think it worked too well!

Taking a new Discovery for a swim!

On a recent visit to Port Augusta in South Australia we found that the locals favourite entertainment was watching people getting their cars off the beach before the tide came in. A lot of tinnies were consumed by the locals as they watched the efforts of these people to beat the tide. Dad had lent his brand new Discovery ES to his kids to go for a swim. They were not happy to leave the Disco parked on solid ground 100 metres from the beach (too far to walk!) so drove down onto the very boggy ground below the high tide mark! It took over 3 hours to extract the vehicle as the tide marched in! For $100 he could have called the local emergency service. Makes you wonder doesn't it!!? Don't want to pay $100 to rescue a vehicle worth nearly $70,000!!!

Another Disco! Still in trouble though, not the sort of hill I'd like to be backing up!
