David Allan Coe is
the epitome of the country music outlaw. Born
September 6, 1939 in Akron, Ohio, Coe spent time
in and out of correctional institutions of one
kind or the other much of his life. His rugged
real life experiences fueled the incredibly
talented songwriter/singer with the materials he
needed to rank consistently high in record charts
throughout his career. Many of Coe's songs
present a brazen, haunting and often humorous
view of life that is simply outrageous. If you
don't believe it, listen to "If That Ain't
Country, I'll Kiss Your Ass" on this
incredible "Best of the Best"
collection. David wrote a #1 hit as
early as 1974 when Tanya Tucker recorded his
"Would You Lay With Me (In A Field of
Stone)". David Allan's own rendition is
included on this compact disc compilation. A
quick review of the song titles in this
collection offer a glaring insight into the
Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy who once drove a
hearse and appeared on stage wearing a mask.
Songs like "You Never Even Called Me By My
Name", "Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile",
"Tennessee Whiskey", and "Willie,
Waylon, and Me" tell much about the man
sings them so well. Also included are previously
unreleased songs: "My Son Calls Another Man
Daddy" and "Driving My Life Away."
"The
Best of the Best" is exactly what these
are...the best songs ever by David Allan Coe!
Kick back and prepare for a lesson in outlaw
country philosophy from the all-time #1 country
outlaw...David Allan Coe!
