The Volkmann’s continued to expand their herd size, using only their own replacements. Things were going good for them. Now and then they encountered hills of stress and problems, but their love for each other and the cows, held the dairy together successfully.
Then came the month of August 1992. Reuben Prail, who is Sallie’s father had a terrible accident when he fell backward from a ladder in the cow lot and landed on his head on the cement ground. Before that month, Sallie and Norman raised their herd among Reuben’s herd. At the same time they were slowly purchasing Reuben’s field machinery to build up their inventory. After the accident, Norman and Sallie along with Mary, who is Sallie’s mother, turned all of Reuben’s herd, machinery, and acres into Blue Line Dairy Corporation. Norman and Sallie then started purchasing the stocks in order to own the entire corporation over time.
