This is a very helpful trick to give a little bit more security to your website.  When you don't have an index page, you give easy access to all your files on your server.  I recommend putting one in every folder that does not have an index page.

The bolded areas are ones you will need to change in order to personalize this feature for your use.  The "5" shown above is how many seconds you want the browser to wait until re-directing the webpage to another one.  The bolded URL is obviously the address of the web page you desire the browser to direct the visitor to.  Make sure you place this "Meta" tag with the other ones located within your "Head" tags.
