Background
Ares is my favorite god from Greek Mythology. As an Olympian, or one of the twelve major gods that resided on mount Olympus, he was young and extremely handsome. However, as the god of war, he was known for his quick temper and violent frenzies.
One such time when his fury was unleashed was against Halirhothius, who had raped his daughter. Ares was naturally outraged and killed the man in revenge. On the hills of Athens, Ares was put on trial for the murder—the first trial ever. The hill where he was acquitted is known as the Areopagus, or "hill of Ares".
Based upon this little tale of history and mythology, the Ares Award will be given to sites "put on trial" and judged for their content, design, and overall adherence to excellence.
Categories & Requirements
The Ares Award is bestowed in one of three categories: Promotion of Mythology, Philosophy and Thought, and Overall Excellence.
Promotion of Mythology: Mythology is a broad term; the award was designed with ancient Greek mythology in mind, but any site with religious connotations—from Wicca to Christianity to Native American folklore—is suitable to nominate.
Philosophy and Thought: Anything with thought-provoking content will be considered for this award. This includes Socrates, Sartre, atheism, or the likes.
Overall Excellence: If the site is a combination of the above or has an extremely appealing layout and design, nominate it for this award.
You may nominate your own site for this award, or someone else's you deem deserving. Simply fill out the application form below. You or the recipient will be contacted within the next week, along with the appropriate graphic [similar to above but sans the VOID stamp] and this URL to link to. Most likely, all who apply will receive this award. [However, if the site is vile, repulsive, racist, and/or offensive, you will probably just receive an e-mail from me, telling you where exactly you can go and shove your website.]
