This page was inspired by an email from R. Ludwig:

In God's hands - July 8, 1997 at Fort Bragg, NC
in a Blackhawk helicopter crash while on a training mission.

Jack was the crew chief on board.
I am hoping that people will become more aware
of sacrifice to country during peacetime as well as wartime.
To die in the line of duty during peacetime
in the United States is just as honorable
as dying on a battlefield in a foreign country.
It hurts me when there are memorials erected
and they list by name the war casualties
but they leave out peacetime casualties.
I feel that Jack and other soldiers
who die during peacetime are forgotten.
Beloved son of Alice Smith
