BREEDING BUDGIES:

Breeding budgies whether for profit or as a hobby is very enjoyable. Some people start with budgies as pets and then get to breeding but others aquire the "breeding bug" through family aviaries but no matter what the cause it is certain that they all have something in common… the love of budgies.

GETTING STARTED:

A common misconception among people who are about to start breeding is that you can just put a male and female bird together and PRESTO, baby budgies but that’s not true. Females require the security and dim light of a "nest box".

Nest boxes come in various shapes and sizes. Some are constructed from wood to look like the nests that wild budgies use, others are more "modern" and give extra help

to the breeder by including a see through plastic frame. But no matter what the shape a nest box is ABSOLUTLY necessary!

The cost of a nest box varies depending on the kind you get. If you go all natural and build a nest box of your own the cost is usually zero. You can usually go to your local hardware store and ask for "leftovers". Most hardware stores will be glad to help.

If you choose to go modern and splurge for the extra luxuries, such as a plastic door and see threw plastic door and pull out tray with the NECESSARY concave that will contain the eggs. It will set you back about 17-30$ depending on what brand you get.
