Shofar Shepherds and Shelties has a very limited breeding program. Our goals are to produce performance German Shepherds and Shelties who are healthy, conform to the breed standard, with unflappable temperments, and who have a liveable work ethic.
Dax is strong on the old American show lines, going back to our favorite GSD, Reno, several times in her pedigree, and she is only a few generations removed from the German lines that gave us Bernd vom Kallengarten and Troll. Suzanne Clothier, Dax's breeder, has done a marvolous job of preserving these lines. Her Hawks Hunt's dogs have been extremely successful in the fields of obedience & agility, with dogs ranked nationally, and they have done exceptionally well in tracking, herding, Search & Rescue, therapy dog work & more. Dax has passed her tests to become a therapy dog and she currently serves as the demo dog for my obedience and agility training classes. At just a month shy of her 8th birthday, Dax entered the breed ring for the first time in her life, and became an IABCA National Champion from the Veteran's class, which she won all three days.
At Shofar Shepherds, our goal is to promulgate German Shepherds that are balanced in mind, body and soul, who are sound, pleasing to the eye, versitile dogs with livable drives, who would be equally at home performing a courage test or taking a nap on the couch while its partner/guardian reads. Along with that goes strong constitutions and a long life span (Dax's grandsire, Bear, lived till the age of 15. Her granddam, Tasy, is still exuberant at age 14.) But above all, our goal is to produce German Shepherds who are a joy to share one's house and one's life with.
