July 1999 UpdateMy dear Friends and Co-laborers: Once again I'd like to report on our labors in Mexico. It seems when one church is completed there is always another in line to start. This always makes me happy. I remember when I was in my early "thirties" (30) it seemd God put me on the shelf for awhile, and I began to cry out to the Lord. "Lord, give me a work to do." Not long afterwards He put us into a church to rpastor and we've been busy since. We're pushing 70 now and we've always had a work and a song. Praising God. Many of you have heard of our newest church in Jalapa (ha-lá-pa). This property was given to us as a result of a word of knowledge the Lord gave to me concerning a new work and the lady and her husband to whom God gave the work. I searched for a month and a half (secretly) looking for this church not wanting to go by the lady's house because I didn't want this to be of "me". But then having business with her, my daughter Corrine, and I went to her home. Upon completing the business with her, ready to leave, I simply said, "I'm going to tell you what God put on my heart." I spoke of her and the church and what God had spoken of to me. She responded, "Brother, didn't you know that there is an abandoned church alongside of my house?" Oh what a joy as we went to the adjoining lot, and there was the church. Closed for nine years. We spoke of re-opening it and of the pastor, now a pastor of another town. We prayed, sang songs and had a short service. Agreeing for her to speak to the pastor she went to his service Sunday morning early. He was still in prayer, and praying God to raise the work up again, she arrived. A joyous occasion I'm sure. He gave us the property, went to the "court house" to record the property, etc., etc. As people began to come and enter in, some "new born" some renewed consecrations, the church soon was too small. All this in two months or so. I'm home now in Clarkston but plan to return July 5th to thelp new construction. This church, probably 20'x30", is made of foam packing crates and 2x4's. One 2x4 every 4' with styrofoam in between. Some places there is sheetrock....sometimes on the inside, sometimes on the outside. These people are so excited over what God is doing. So am I! A new harvest of Christians. We will be baptizing new converts when I (we) arrive, now only two weeks away. We do need finances for this work. I've been sending money each week for materials and also for the poor. There are many hungry people in Mexico. Many children (1 and 2 year olds) go without clothes because they have no diapers and it's easier to "not wash clothes ever time the little one dirtys or wets"! One day here in Clarkston I was eating my breakfast. I received a phone call. "What are you doing?" "Eating my breakfast," I replied to the lady in Mexico. "Oh, you are eating but we have nothing to eat. We are hungry." I ask you....how would you respond? In our travels, people often say, "I've been to Mexico," telling of trips to Mazatlan, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Chiuhuawa, or some other resort town. I've never been to one of these places. Yes, there are poor people there, but not like out in the small towns. We've chosen to go to the places where there is no church (always a Catholic church) or a long distance to one and help there. Good bibles are always needed, and of course, they must be in Spanish. No one speaks English in Mexico. Maybe one or two here or there. Your prayers are greatly needed. Preaching the gospel in Spanish is not an easy task for me. Yes, I preach in Spanish, but to get out the "meat" of the Word is difficult. Please pray God will help me to lead people to a very personal walk with Jesus. I hope that each of you are doing well in the Lord, and I hope you are prospering in your home and finances. America is doing good in these times, however I don't know of too many rich people. We all seem to struggle but we make it, don't we? God is good, isn't He?! Would you pray for us, and if you can, help us financially. I appreciate very much your faithfulness in giving. We pray for you often. There are many of you that give and I thank you for it. More and more people depend on us (on God) for help and it seems there are never enough dollars to go around. All money is for Mexico and expenses. God richly bless you. --Chet & Colleen Milton, and Corrine Hvass
