In memory of our beloved Caesar
(and Greyhounds in general)

On March 13th 2000 we regretfully had to put our dearest Caesar to sleep. He suddenly became ill and through tests we found out his kidneys we shutting down. As it turns out, he had an immune disease that might have been lingering for quite some time We all will deeply miss our dearest Caesar. He was the 'perfect' dog. We hope that in the short time we had the priviledge to share our lives with Caesar that he loved his life. He was a member of our family (heck he had three more beds than I do!!) Goodbye Caesar, God must have wanted a great dog, and he took the best...

Caesar (registered name-Bay St. Louis) was our male Greyhound that we adopted in May of 1998. We adopted him through Greyhound Companions of Indiana. He was what you call a 'return'. His previous owners could no longer care for him because their son was allergic to dogs. He was almost the perfect pet. I say ALMOST because he liked to chase after (and unfortunately catch) small furry animals.

Everyone loved Caesar! When he took his daily 'strolls' (code word in our house for walk) he was greeted by members of his fan club. It seems no child was afraid of Caesar, he must not have looked mean at all because they ran up and hugged him. Of course, Caesar just stood perfectly still, taking it all in. We once asked some of his fans why they liked him so much, and why they liked him more than their own dogs. Their answer? Because Caesar doesn't do anything! He doesnt run away, doesn't run and jump on them, doesn't bark, doesn't lick, doesn't do anything but stand there. What an interesting reason to love him so much!

The sad truth about Greyhounds is that once their racing career is up they are often killed or left to starve. Adoption agencies manage to save some of the Greyhounds before they meet with a horrible end. They must then find foster homes and adoptive parents for the Greyhounds. Luckliy more and more Greyhounds are being saved through the help of these agencies.
