Say It With Love

Fifteen year old Douglas had been feeling poorly for weeks. His mother took him to Children's Hospital. Blood tests revealed leukemia.
Doug bravely endured transfusions, spinal and bone marrow tests and chemotherapy. He knew the possible outcome of leukemia and fought to maintain hope.

A relative, wishing to cheer Doug, ordered flowers at a shop near the hospital. The relative briefly explained Doug's plight to the clerk. When the flowers arrived, Doug was surprised to see a card from the clerk attached. It read:

"Doug, I took your order. I work here at the florist shop...I had leukemia when I was seven years old. I'm 22 years old now.
Good luck. My heart goes out to you. Sincerely, Laura".

Those encouraging and loving words of a stranger gave Doug
the hope he needed!

Words are more than a few letters pieced together to form a concept. They are our primary source of communication. Words can comfort or unnerve, praise or scold, encourage or belittle. They are powerful tools to be used with care and with the awareness that words make a difference. Words are most positive and fulfilling when spoken with love.

With love as a basis, words often help bring positive change into the life of another. When you speak with love, you serve a much-needed dish of praise, gratitude, encouragement, or forgiveness to a possibly hungry listener.

Our words can cut or comfort, hinder or help, harass or heal, injure or inspire. God gave us speech to communicate for the good of all. To speak with love is to plant "flower seeds" within. Negative words beget "weed seeds." Here are some phrases that are music to the ear and spirit:

Good work!

May I help you?

I forgive you.

Congratulations!

I'm sorry.

You can do it!

We're proud of you!

Thank you.

I love you.

Each time we speak, we deliver our own "state of the heart" address. This is the month of valentines, red hearts, chocolate hearts, red roses...all symbols of love.
As we begin the Jubilee year of 2000, may all our words be said with Love.
