Comments: Leesa Lavigne, Real Estate Agent Mark Stimson Associates 173 Park Row Brunswick, Maine 04011 207-729-9986 Researching the cost of buying/selling blueberry fields in the Southern/Centeral Maine area. What is the average cost per acre to purchase productive fields? Is there a demand? Are new people trying to get into the business? I am worried that the fields may be worth more to developers than to existing blueberry farmers and am trying to set a price and marketing scheme. Any ideas? Thanks.

Comments: Greetings-- Your banner came up on my page as I was checking it after updating. My dad is very fond of blueberries, so I thought I'd take a look. He has 8 - 10 bushes -- mostly rabbit eye varieties--which he is quite proud of. We freeze around 30 quarts per year, and give away or eat fresh quite a few. I have an interesting recipe for blueberry pizza if you are interested; it is always a hit. He has a little trouble with mummy berries. We are trying to raise a few bushes ourselves. Our soil is around a ph of 4, which, I understand, is not too bad for blueberries, but little else likes it that acid. We built on a wooded lot and have 1 3/4 wooded acres next to us, all of which have lots of wild huckleberries. Also, Christmas is my favorite time, and I love Christmas trees. Unforutnately, I have had poor luck with most evergreens here. I had some yews which turned yellow, so I threw some MirAcid on them--before I knew the ph. They didn't make it. Also lost my Canadian hemlock. I looked at your list of graphics briefly. I've bookmarked your site--too late tonight to do much. I have a number of bookmarks for graphics which I will post on my site in the next day or two. My site is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System, so that people who are at home in a library should feel right at home at my site. I plan to check out my links more closely this summer (I'm a high school librarian) to be sure they are in the right place. I'm using only a rough classification scheme, since many web sites are so diverse. I am also planning to start a web page for my church. Are you the webmaster at your church? Enjoyed your site. Hope you will visit my site soon. Marie Long

Comments: John, I live on a small acerage in the Willamette Valley in western Oregon, and have a 60' x 200' berm that covers my drain field. It seem a good place to plant a blueberry patch, taking advantage of the moisture. It would also provide a good summer oppertunity for the local gradeschool labor force! I'd like however to ruduce the overhead and not purchase plants while perhaps extend the experience. Is it reasonable for me to propagate my own plants? I'm not in too much of a hurry. I just started working the ground this spring. I look forward to more information. Thanks, Dave Anderson
