Family Amathusiidae
Overview: Family Amathusiidae
Family Amathusiidae is a smaller Family, containing right about 100 species,
which are mostly confined to the Australian continent and surrounding islands.
In appearance and eye-catching beauty, they could generally be compared to
the species belonging to Family Morphidae, though the blue colorations present
in Family Amathusiidae are more subdued, and largely nonexistant compared to most of
the members of Family Morphidae.
For the most part, the species within this Family have well-developed
eyespots (ocelli) on both the upper and lower wings.
