Money, Wealth & Interest

"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the opinion of a day, but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, unalterable through every change of ministers, too plainly prove a deliberate, systematical plan of reducing us to slavery" Thomas Jefferson
More and more people today are seeing through the great con-trick that is interest, or usury as it was formerly known (and for hundreds of years forbidden by the Christian Church as a sin!). They see how it creates money from nowhere, creates something for nothing, and see it as the hidden engine behind inflation (which is also something from nothing) and how it allows those who have the ability to charge interest, i.e. banks and financial institutions, to gain great power over almost everyone, governments included, through the creation of debt, and how the imaginary extra wealth created through collected interest is then used to create more debt, in a never-ending orgy of expansion and domination.

This is quite true as far as it goes. But to then go on and claim (as many do), that it is sufficient merely to restrict interest, or to make it illegal, or to print enough interest-free money to make everyone into a millionaire, shows a dangerous ignorance about the real nature of money and wealth. It is the blind leading the bemused straight into the same trap that allowed the imposition of interest in the first place.

It is a fatal error to mistake money for real wealth. Money, whether as credit, cash or bars of solid gold has absolutely NO intrinsic value. You cannot eat it, you cannot live in it, you cannot plant a seed in it nor feel it's breath upon your cheek. Money in all its forms is only the promise of these things. It is an act of faith, a faith in the promise that one may indeed have whatever one chooses, that the bearer will upon demand, upon proffering the promise in exchange, will receive these chosen things. But the things themselves are never the money; always the wealth. And wealth ultimately can only be land, always pieces of the planet fashioned into whatever you desire, as possessions, as technology, as environment.
World-wide, the same brutally inescapable economic realities are so deeply entrenched in the fabric of every society, that we are blind to their true significance through that very familiarity. It is hard to see clearly through the blizzard of fast-moving money transactions, and of course we are never taught the true nature of the economics that rule us. Yet the facts are simple:
Land is life. If you have no land to live from, you are dependent on money to purchase the products of the land; if you have no money to live from, you depend on employment; if you have no employment, then dependent on the State; if the State refuses you, you beg for the charity of the rich; no charity, you steal or die.
Such is the chain which binds us to each other, and to the land. It is the entire spectrum of human economic existence, and none can escape it. A moment's thought reveals it is the rich, who by rationing the land, humanity's life-support system, actively create the helpless dependence in the rest of us on money, employment etc.

For just as rent is the charge made to those who either have not enough access to land, or none at all, access to what is effectively the right to live, pure and simple - so is interest the rent charged for access to money for those who either have not enough money, or none at all. And why do they need money? Because they have no land, no real wealth of their own. If you have no land of your own, you have no right to live on this planet, which is the same as saying you have no right to live - full stop.

Well over 80% of all children born on Planet Earth have no right to live here - because the land that gives them life already belongs to someone else. Signed with each child's first breath, is the unwritten contract by which their parents must pay for the land that enables that child to continue living (as food, as clothes, as home), but must also pay for the land that entitles that child to live (as rent for the right to use someone else's planet)

Not only does money not possess any value by itself, it also possesses no power in itself. It is merely a tool for flexible exchange, on a par with a screwdriver, and possessed of as little inherent evil. The power it seems to have actually derives from the continual eviction of the majority of the human race from the planet of their birth. Once born or made landless, we have no choice but to work for the owners of the land we need to live. Serfs did this, eventually commuting their bondage into rent, which we now all pay through exchange, money being the most common means. We work to live. And while some work is always necessary to extract wealth from land, the major share of the work we now do `to live' is actually work for the landowner whose planet we must rent. Interest only mirrors the rent of land, and only exists because to exist ourselves we must either rent land or rent money to buy the products of the land, and have absolutely no alternative. What evil there is (and it is a great evil) resides in the nature of the exchange being offered:

My land for your life. Pay (work for) me or die, your choice. Take your time. I'm not an unreasonable man, I'll even let you stand on my ground for free till you make your mind up. You can survive for up to four days without water. My water. Would you like some? Twenty dollars a day, drink as much as you like. I've plenty to spare. Me and my partners own every spring, well and lake on the planet

Sure Interest is a con, but it's founded on and draws it's power from a much deeper and much older con - the private ownership of Gaia, Earth Goddess, Mother of our Being..

Dethroned, raped, carved up in pieces and fought over for centuries to be sold to the richest, greediest, most violent bastards around. If you want to kill a poisonous weed it's no good just cutting off the flowerheads, or even the stem - you've got to dig out the root. Interest, powerful though it may be, is just one of the many foul-smelling flowers sprouting from this same root. Exploitation, poverty, war, injustice, oppression, environmental devastation, famine, racial hatred, secret manipulation, organised violence - all draw their power from this same ancient evil.

One can only wonder at the moral stupidity that allows every single thing on the face of this earth bar the air we breathe to be parcelled up and sold outright to the highest bidder. For not only does this give the Earth to the richest, it makes the poor forever slaves of the rich, and it condemns all their children and their children's children to be born into debt to the descendants of those who inherit the Earth - and this for all eternity! Where does Private Property end and Slavery begin? I'll tell you - with the Ownership of the Earth.
