With its ears perked up and its eyes watchful, it walkd silently through the Canadian forest. Its large, hairy front paws and long legs keep it from sinking too deeply into the snow. It has little tufts of hair at the tips of its ears. This is the Canadian lynx. It's vision is piercing, and the expression "lynx-eyed" means to have keen vision.

After stalking its prey or running after it, the Canadian lynx literally jumps on its victim. Its favorite foods are hare and rabbit, but it also eats small rodents and even some deer. The lynx is a very good swimmer and likes to fish. It hunts at night. During the day, it takes a rest in the shelter of a fallen tree, a dense shrub, or some rocks. The lynx population increase at the same rate as the number of hares. When the hare population decreases, the number of lynx soon falls.

the Canadian lynx lives in a territory that ranges from 4 ot 100 square miles. It lives a solitary life except in mating season. At that time, the females leaves her young, born the year before breeding season, the female returns to her territory. About 3 months later, she has 2 or 3 kittens. They open their eyes when they are about 16 days old. When they are a month old, they begin to feed on the meat their mother brings. They stay with her for a year. Even though they are freatly hunted for their beautiful fur, there are still many lynx in the Canadian forest.
