The Way of Herbs: fully Updated
By Michael Tierra
Paperback : Pocket Books
An absolutely wonderful,
extremely comprehensive book on the use of herbs for various medicinal
purposes. Not only does it provide the novice with the basic definitions
of various preparations, what herbs are good for what types of ailments,
etc., it also provides you with a basic working knowledge of how to make
each preparation outlined. While occasionally a bit on the technical
side, still.. it is an invaluable book for any herbal library. And this updated version (which usually ships within 24 hours) is even more user friendly than the first.
Herbs for Health and Healing
Kathy Keville with Peter
Korn
Paperback :
Rodale Press
An extremely user - friendly,
very practical and safe approach to herbal remedies. She includes
such things as potential interactions of certain herbs with prescription
drugs as well as what herbs will work well with medications you may already
be taking. And I can personally attest that her section on women's
complaints is top notch.

Need a full guide of the
magical properties of herbs? Having a problem finding a particular
herb because the folk name you have is different from what is on the herb
shelf? Want to know what planet rules the plant you're working with?
Then this is the book for you. With everything from a folk name cross
reference, detailed information on the magical properties of each herb
(with planetary rulerships) to a quick reference on which herb would work
great with a certain type of spell, there's not much that man didn't cover.
An absolute must for any magical library.
Magical Herbalism : The Secret of the Wise
Scott Cunningham
Paperback : Published by
Llewellyn Publications
Okay; you've got the Encyclopedia.
But it's so big! And we all know there are times when you're in the
middle of a big spell and just want a quick reference. For those
times, this is the perfect book. While it contains many highlights
from the encyclopedia, it also contains valuable information not covered
in the previous book. Also, it is a great way to introduce a friend
to the basics.
The Complete Book of Incense, Oils & Brews
Scott Cunningham
Paperback : Published by
Llewellyn Publications
Okay; you have the
encyclopedia. You even have the quick reference (I told you it would
come in handy!) Now what?? Well,
time to put them to creative use! I mean, it's great when you can
walk into an occult supply store and buy pre made oils and incense, just
made for that particular spell you have in mind. But, let's
face it folks... not all of us live in areas where such stores are accessible
: in some places I've been to, they'd be bombed for having the audacity
to set up shop! Not too mention that while we'd all like to believe
that fellow practitioners are upstanding honest folk.. that is definitely
not always the case. So, it may be bast to learn to make some of
those supplies you need all on your own. And this book is a great
help toward that end.
Well, folks... that's the
list for now. A little of both, and enough for many. The books
cover the basics of both sides of herbalism. And, hey.. don't stop
there! If you really have an interest in the use of what Mother Earth
has provided for your needs.. study everything you can. And please
(I can never stress this enough) remember that herbs are like anything
else on this planet : something that can be used to help, but if misused,
can harm. Research as much as you can before ingesting any
herbal remedy, and do everything in moderation!!!!!!
