RainForest Netiquette Guide

Chat-etiquette

GeoCities chat rooms are a great place to meet people, and basically to have fun. In the RainForest, our chat room monitors provide an important service to homesteaders and visitors alike by keeping the chat rooms a friendly place to visit. Following are some basic courtesies and simple rules of etiquette that all chatters should follow in order to lessen monitor intervention, and to help keep the chat rooms fun and enjoyable for everyone:
  • Do not use profanities, or abusive language. Chat monitors have the authority to instantly boot an abusive chatter without warning.
  • Do not harass other chatters. Chat monitors will intervene in all instances of abusive behavior.
  • Do not harass the chat monitors. They are here to help you, and should be extended the same courtesies you expect to receive from others.
  • If you wind up in a heated argument with another chatter, please keep it private to avoid offending or bothering other chatters.
  • If you find yourself being harrassed or bothered by another chatter at a time when a chat monitor is not available, you can quickly discourage the activity by clicking on CONFIG and selecting IGNORE for that person. Doing so will instantly block that chatter's posts.
  • Use CAPS only if you wish to emphasize a word or phrase. CAPS are customarily considered SHOUTING in a chat room.
  • Remember, if you are indeed booted for untolerated behavior, you will not be able to re-enter the chat room for an extended period of time, therefore we encourage you to be courteous at all times, and practice good chat room etiquette.
