As a member of our high tech civilized society it is difficult to live a sustainable lifestyle.
So my part in helping the environment is unfortunately rather small.
I have always resisted in buying a car. I go by bike or bus or train for longer distances.
The water filling of my washing machine comes from my shower that I have taken before.
This water from a shower is not more dirty than the clothes. It makes sense for it is already
a bit warm and is a recycling. I never take an elevator or moving staircase if its only for me
alone and of course if its only a few stories :).
Almost never I buy frozen or canned food and choose the product with least packaging.
I know this is not much but it helps reducing my impact on our natural resources and I hope it
can serve as an example for other ideas. (bolo)/RainForest/1650

I have boycotted any "water" foods. Tuna and shrimp are things that I take a personal interest in. I continually remind
and tell people how bad it is to support trawlers and environmentally "unfriendly" tuna and shrimp. I have currently become active
with "Beachsweep 97" and found that to be a very good and worthy cause. At home, we recycle, reduce and reuse. I have had a compost
working for awhile (with MUCH trouble)!! I continually try to be aware of water consumption and wastage. I read about environmental

I started a paper recycling program at my previous workplace until the place I took the paper to about a year later said
they weren't taking anymore paper because they weren't making money from recycling it. I was very disappointed in them, and there are
no more recycling places nearby to take the paper to. I checked everywhere. Anyway, I still recycle my pop cans, plastics(NO. 2-In my
area that's the only plastic grade that they take), glass, and metal soup, fruit, and vegetable cans. I try to reuse containers when I
can, so as not to create extra garbage for the landfills.

First and foremost, I inform as many people I can about the environment. I reuse and recycle everything I
can, and voraciously encourage people around me do the same. Almost all of my household products are environmentally
friendly. I carpool and walk to the store. At home, we compost and buy containers that are reusable or recyclable. We
conserve water. It may seem strict and reglemented, but itÆs actually satisfying to know that you are doing the right

Also, I am a volunteer at the virginia mariene science museum, so I am able to teach, and help people understand about

On a personal level, I try to live as much as possible in a low impact life style (though I am by no means perfect in this regard). For
several years now, I have chosen to not own a car, but instead rely largely on bicycle, and public transportation to get around (no simple

candidate's ecology credentials, and their personal integrity are the two key things I look for when I'm deciding if I will take on a new

I work for a county environmental agency which seeks to protect against air, water and noise
pollution. My function is to assist them in their efforts to adopt, implement and enforce
regulations and standards which prevent, minimize and correct pollution. Privately, I do

I am working in conjunction with many others on a grassroots, microbraodcasting movement
in order to give the "people" a voice. Unfortunatly the airwaves are congested with
