Sorry, I will have to get back to you on that one.

(ideas=) Creative ideas for alternative endevoirs for people who make their living in and around the Rainforests.
EpiphiteRainForest/Andes/7068
Surveys and spam mail are not a solution as most people love to click 'delete' when they see them. I believe that education is the answer. Education with our children. A good choice would be to stage local programs at libraries or schools where
No
change yourself personally
mass suicide
an education program to give to schools
Not at this time
Know thyself :)
hmmmmmmmmmm
more agroforestery!
If it was possible, to pass an international law making rainforests like National Parks in a way.
Ricky
Drives to create more rainforests and encourage enviromentally co-operative living within them. Sponcerships for alternative energy projects. Think tanks about ways we can meet our needs and wants in a
way that adds to and enhances our world.
Bill
Animal Adoptions *grins*, funding the WWF or National Geographic & other such worthy environmental-centered organizations.
WildstarRainForest/Canopy/9924
Everybodies cooperation...alot of government help...and a life long commitment...but first, everyone has to care and want to do something about it. Plus, a world wide ban together to gain back what we have destroyed.
JungleDoveRainForest/Canopy/9582
A write in campaign to the Farm Bureu and Mr, Babbitt and get them to see how ranchers are killing off a vital link in our enviroment. Suvival of the fittest worke4d until mankind took over as a demigod and made such decssions

I want to move my homepages to Geocities and do not have one yet
um, educational stuff maybe? We've got one of the greatest method of spreading knowledge at our fingertips (literally), but we need to make more people aware. Perhaps set up an eco-education ring, not spam sites please :)
DogwhelkRainForest/8637
Petitions for recovery of endangered/threatened species. Teach others to be more aware of government legislature's effects. More active in education. etc.
LadySkyeRainForest/Vines/6961
Yes. We could do Postcard Days, when we chose an issue and all sent email to our legislators and other key figures on legislative committees.
seasealRainForest/7428
Not really. Page after page could be put up trying to educate people on the importance of environmental health, but most of the people who care, already know.
MarneeRainForest/Vines/5992
I was disappointed to see that the GeoAvenues did not include an Environment category. The Avenues are an excellent way to expose issues like conservation and environmental education to casual browsers.
Many of the neighborhoods, such as Athens, have Neighborhood Zines similar to -- but more organized than -- the RainForest newsletter. I realize that the maintence of such sites is a large responsibility and many of our neighbors simply don't have time for such an endeavor, but *wistful grin* wouldn't it be cool??!
seraph13RainForest/6309
The government in Canada is doing a VERY POOR job on keeping this what used to be clean nation clean. We should organize something to make the government do a better job.

This WWW community has the potential of changing peoples awareness. And everyone can use this means
of communication for exchange of ideas, everyone of us can use his voice for a political pressure.
(bolo)/RainForest/1650
Educational campaignes through the web and, in a long term, some kind of conferences in a selected
place....maybe in a third world country, but it will be a hard work.........but someone has to do it! isn't it?

/RainForest/Canopy/1351
Awareness campaigns, bulletins, information
sharing....things like that! Something that would make the average person who wouldn't normally visit RainForest want to visit it to
learn more.

1. Online comprehensive courses about nature, the environment and ecology. Teach people why we and our surroundings are
so intimately and ultimately linked. 2. Newsletters about environment-related current events.
3. A Geocities RainForest Newsgroup 4. A page where anyone can interactively submit articles about conservation.

/RainForest/4557
this I would have to think about, if you mean an offline project--here, maybe a graphics page with some of the
best pics in the RainForest (upbeat or not)
( ? ) - /RainForest/Vines/2647
I don't know if you are already doing this, but maybe if a program was created to teach children since the very beginning what the problems are, and a
few solutions for them, these children can become familiar with the subject and apply it to their everyday living. I teach high school. Most of
my students would like to get involved but they don't really know what to do or how to do it.

Ya'll can ask for donations from people to help save acres of rainforest. Or you can sell environmental t-shirts and such to help save it.
(Angela Longstreet) -
/RainForest/Vines/5376
Come up with viable alternative sources of paper.
( ? ) - ?
A continually updated list that would inform fellow compassionate souls of what they can do and what campaigns they can join
to help preserve the environment for future generations

How about this: You know how people give money to the Christian Childrens Fund, etc. to "sponsor" a child?
Couldn't we start a "Noah's Ark" oganization that encourages species sponsorship? Is there any way to become organizers
in our own geographic regions, do assessments of habitat to decide what (non-threatening) species thrive in what kind
of habitat (including insects), and encourage private landowners to actively create and populate part of their land in this way?
(anonymous) - ?
Things like this for one are good, they allow people to share their ideas on how we individually can help. I think one of the biggest
problems is that people don't know what they can do to help.
(Darren Grafius) -
/RainForest/Vines/2788
Biannual projects/petitions to get people to set up and support a big clean-up activity for somewhere in this world that is in a
serious problem relating to the environmental concerns.
Daniel Millikin - ?
Classes to educate people what would be the impact if the ecosystems are altered and how fragile they are If some spicies disappear
what would happen to the ecosystem and the people. If destroyed, will never come back, lost forever.
Pablo Merel - ?
A campaign to raise people's consciousness to a level where they will realise the world doesn't begin and end with their species
and that crime and violence is ONLY committed by them AND that crime and violence committed against any other species is generally not
illegal and that this is VERY wrong! The human race was supposed to be the guardian of the planet and they interpretted this as being
guardians of their own kind - which as naturally a base animal instinct - ie the survival of the species - and there is nothing special
about that!
(arachne) - ?
Yup...i think we should have clubs. Clubs that show that you are an animal lover and clubs that can
show awareness to people.
(Elisha) -
/RainForest/Vines/6535
I would be interested in some ideas - in collaboration.
(j. mcgoldrick) - ?
Yes, but by agreement of geocities I can not use those Ideal on this medium. So, Email me
I think RainForest could organize a discussion group, or newsletter, or anything to spread out
the information about environment and environmental protection.

/RainForest/3618
The implications of this global community are interesting......I have always thought that "think globally-act locally" is the way to
get something significant done. But RainForest is now "locally". We could organize a conference--an on line on

/RainForest/6046
There would be a better response or reaction to private property takings for species protection if
a real funding program were to be organized to truly provide "just compensation" as guaranteed by the last line of the fifth amendment to our Cons

An online petition to support certain causes, ban certain products, and boycott certain companies.
Encourage everyone to recycle.

A site that will change the world. I need help designing this page. Any
help from the community would be a great service to the larger community.
(John Diewald aka Chuie) -
/RainForest/Vines/1284
How about a massive e-mail letter-writing campaign to politicians & corporations telling them what we want
them to do about the environment? This could be *huge*!
(Dave Botkin) -
/RainForest/5653
A network of information, example, practical help. A network for alternative control structures to be proposed, modeled,
discussed, tried & modified without messing the real world around. A place that can empower people for the application of alt.power &
control systems

/RainForest/Vines/5900
could petition the building of major roads and highways through heavily wooded an animal populatd areas,
or if there is no other way, transport many of the animals to areas furthest away form those areas, to were they will not be harmed....

Maybe information on what people can do just in their everkyday lives to protect and preserve our enviroment
(Jeff Schumacher) - ?
As a collective conciousness, the possibilties are endless. But a recognizable sense of caring about the environment would be a start.
(Rev. Michele R. Nelson) - ?
An Awarness Group to help spread the word about how importain the Earth is and what will happen if it is
destroyed.

/RainForest/Vines/1009
RainForest community is presently a reflection of the modern world we live in - everyone is in their own little box, relatively isolated from
each other. What I would like to see is a full fledged cyber community center. Having chat is a good first step, but I think we could go
beyond that by setting up a few listservers to deal with different topics. I'd like to see a "Macro" list for discussion of national and
international issues, a "Micro" list where local issues can be shared, a "Philosophy" list for the discussion of environmental ethics and
theory questions, a "Critters" list for people that want to talk about their favorite animals, and finally a community business list to
further the discussion of what we want RainForest to be.
(Ed Huefe) -
/RainForest/7696
As an internet community...we...the RainForest members.....could set-up and promote...on-line classes and seminars..on the world enviroments..and their
needs.
(Tom Kealy) -
/RainForest/Vines/4519
A webring... possibly with 2 or 3 different Image maps. One for ecology, one for endangered animals
and one for environmental issues. They could all be linked together but have different pictures to go along with the particular theme that
will correspond with their page.

I think national days like 'national clean your rivers day' and
actually make it successful. I think it would be really neat
if you could organize earth awarness conventions for high school
and college kids across the nation. They are your future and
need the most attention right now. For example, they just held one
at Oklahoma University last spring. I heard that it was great.
(anonymous)
I don't know enough about the community to have any ideas at this time. But to the
extent that it is a group of "aware" individuals, they could be the beginning of a
broad based organization that move the world forward from the ground up. (S.Fotopulos)
It's my first time here, so I wouldn t know. Maybe someone else can
think of something after reading my answers? Simply put, just banning together
is powerful for change because most people are afraid of the changes we must
go thru. By banning together, we form support so that we all know we are not alone.
We are all nuts from having to live in Babylon and being programmed into thinking
that the system is all there is. The planet as a living organism with us living
on it is no different from our bodies as living organisms with micro-organisms
living on us! We must recognize that we are all one entity and treat one another
with like respect - this inclused ALL life forms, not just humans! I didn't
create that tree, so it it not up to me to decide it's fate. So if we go one
step further than visualizing universal consciousness as one, but make it manifest
in our relations in the physical realm by banning together thru our commonalities
and utilize our differenced with respect, then there's hope!
(Luna7) - /?
i think that we should find a way to establish a RainForest
day...where all geocities members are asked to go out and clean up a
park...or plant a tree or something that will help the environment
(dum_dum) -
/RainForest/6452
Perhaps we could start out small and get an online discussion going. From the
discussion we could then as a group try to come together and come up with a
logical solution to some of the problems.
(Dawn) - /?
The RainForest community could organize and publicize days where
visitors are asked to plant one tree, or recycle their alluminum, plastic,
paper, etc. for one week. We could promote the use of alternate sources of
energy.

Have a bulletin board for activists to post on each block and
write in activity needed. Also if you can sort members according to area
of the country (ies) then also have pertinent Bulletin Boards for that.
(Jaquelyn) -
/RainForest/8412
Start a "Yahoo-like" set of pages that directs viewers to
specific topics under RainForest. Examples: Species,
Conservation, Energy, Waste, Pollution, etc.
(Brandon Utech) -
RainForest/6137
Acting locally on global issues. As a community we all put in
our ideas, and as individuals we take these ideas and react to them. This
is working as a community to accomplish all goals.
(WWWebweaver) -
RainForest/Vines/1305
Identify the threats (world wide) to sensitive
environmental areas (wild life areas) and form action groups to prevent
the destruction of these areas. By giving people as much knowledge as
possible we can avoid being classed as green freaks who act on emotions
only, but have scientific backing for our actions, and even better to
come up with workable alternatives..

RainForest/4226
I am new to this concept of cyber-communities. I do believe that
any community has the capability to promote, to educate, to spread the
information that everyone needs in order to understand what our
environment requires... and what we can do to provide those requirements.
(Deb Burkey) -
RainForest/7597
I think the enhancement of the "rainforest" as a source
of environmental information could be projected more thoroughly, but
it's a very good start that is set up here..
(Hotwaterbottle) -
RainForest/7537
Ban together as a community to educate other's on ALL the issues concerning
our environment. There are many great sites in the RainForest community,
all dedicated to their own fight. We should come together as one...to
cover all the issues. Try this for a community thought:
SAVE OUR W.O.R.L.D. (We Of RainForest Live Dedicated!)
(Penny) -
RainForest/8813
sure.... organize activities that makes them feel.. that they can
make a difference...people have begun to give up.
