Although there are many well meaning Environmentalists, there is sometimes an attitude that is counterproductive. If the general public which is outside the environmental community gets the idea that we are fanatics or stupid, then support

There are a variety of wonderful sites already within the RainForest community -- from the academic, to personal philosophies, to pictures of someone's latest trip to a nature reserve or a whale watch. While not all the information is exactly correct, the educational impact is profound.

I spent some time in another geocities community before I came here but I think that the RainForest is the best. It reallt does seem like a community here as opposed to just the people at geocities providing a page, which is what the other community felt like. Thank you for making our stay in the RainForest so pleasant

i am very happy of finding this excelent place......it is unusual to find an environmentalist place where you can post your own points of view in
an informal way, you know.....there are a lot of places in the web but owned by large NGOs, on the other hand, it is very bored to write academic
articles sometimes.

Nature is more than just about the trees, the birds, the anthropods or the plants... It's about harmony and survival,
about balance and the circle of life. It's amazingly intricate, yet fragile and delicate. There lies it's true beauty. We
have the chance to understand and discover so much from it, learn from it, and from that knowledge, we'd live comfortably
and in peace, for Nature Loves all her children.

Is there anyone here who knows anything about the activities of the corporation, Westvaco in or around the city of Manaus, Brazil?
We have an ongoing struggle with this major paper producer in stopping them from deforesting our area of the Ohio Valley near the Mississippi
River. They claim, among other things, that they do not use the rain forest around Manaus, where they have a mill, as a source for pulp.
Would anyone know?

This world is a beautiful place and we have to stop the current practices that are destroying it. If everyone does there bit we can make a
difference and save what is left. Before it is too late!

Ironically, I really think the internet could be the tool we use to try to pull ourselves back from the brink.
I say "try" because I am not optimistic that we will collectively accept the work that is in front of us until it's
too late to succeed. I do believe, however, that we WILL eventually realize and pull together, I just think we'll
fail. Nonetheless, the internet is a hopeful advent, or could be, with it's implications for increasing telecommuniting
(and reducing auto emissions), reducing paper, increasing instant global communication for organizing, etc.

I like this site very much and I'm glad that people are determined to keep this world clean for our generations and many

Let us plan and dream for a environmentally safe future, where we will not be thretened by nucleur fall out, auto emissions, incinerators etc. Each adds to the depletion
of the ozone layer.

May the powers that brought us together today do so again in the future.
The rank and file of the environmentalists are being used as "dupes" by the "elites" to further their causes,
however perverse. Since the initial impact of this smokescreen is beginning to wear thin, the new "cause" is becoming
the protection of the "children".

The present cultural/social power structures WILL NOT just go away. They have been here to long for that. The dangers of changing a paradigm
as big as the way we live with each other & the world, is that the old mind-set perpetuates itself

The chances of humanity making it past a major population crash depend very much on the preservation of large tracts of wild lands. As the
resources demands of an expanding humanity continue to grow, we will have to fight ever harder to protect what remains. It is the task of
the present generation to fight this battle. Our children will face a very different challenge - learning to survive in a world without
cities or machines. Whether or not they succeed will depend largely on whether or not we do. We must do whatever we can. The fate of our
species is in our hands.

May we all walk in light and love....in the words of a favorite songwriter:
"...for the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers,
Thier laughter and thier loveliness can clear a cloudy day,
And the song that I am singing is a prayer to non-believers,
Come and stand beside us, we can find a better way."
Peace on Earth!

For most of my life I have believed that the simplest of the
earth's bounty, her plants, held the key to our well being. I am gratified
to see the current "rediscovery" of the uses of herbs in medicine. I am
also gratified to see the acknowledgement that our forests, and especially
the tropical and temperate rain forests, may hold as yet undiscovered
herbal medicines, and are being more respected. Perhaps we will save them
after all...(with the hope of saving ourselves). If our forests can't
command respect to save the ozone layer, perhaps they will command respect
to save the populace's health and well being....
